I am curious to know if anybody have any pics of the wheel mount of this vehicle? Like to see how it looks, like how many mount wheel bolts does it have etc.

Thanks. So can i assume that you mount the wheel using nuts to thread the rim to the threaded bolts that are already welded to the wheel? Or are bolts used?

Thank you kindly. That is exactly what I needed to know. btw, looking at the rim, it looks to have 4 mount holes but it seems to have 5 holes.

Was always a pain to hoist the wheel up and hold it while trying to start the first lug.

Those skinny 14's and 15's aren't so bad....you should try the rears on my Manx: 15x9 Jackmans with 275/50-15s.

The secret is 'starter lugs,' which thread into 2 of the holes by hand so you can hang the wheel and start the others.

Those vented units are the 14" wheels that were used from 9/64 through the end of the splitscreen Bus production(my '66 21-window had those). The 1949-3/55 production used 16" wheels like the split Beetles, and from 4/55 through 8/64 they were 15."

Thanks for this pic but is this the right configuration for the VW in question? Johnny posted a pic of a lug in an earlier post. It is different thanwhat you just posted.

Franklin Mint got it wrong. The old VWs had a lug bolt. Troublesome on a stock wheel for the uninitiated. PITA on a off road vehicle with 31x10 BFG tires. There were conversions for studs, and a typical lug nut application, but not stock.

I knew somethign was foggy with my memory, wasn't sure when/if type 1 & 2 went to the vented wheels the same year. I knew the bus had 3 different size wheels, but I didn't remember the years.

Hi Jason. Thank you for your answer but I am still a little confused here. You said Franklin Mint got it wrong. Who is this? Do you have a pic showing the wheel and lug configuration , like what Andy posted above? A pic would say a thousand words. I'm trying to replicate this particular area as I will have one of the wheels remove on my build. I'm in the process of finishing off the chassi and I want to complete this area before painting.

They used the lug bolt like I pictured.

They loved watching us straddle the tire between our legs to put the wheels on.

Service advisors used to have a name for us doing that, which I won't divulge here....

I was refering to this picture of the Franklin Mint die cast model.

Just removing the studs and having a hole for the lugbolts would be accurate.
