AzTom Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 This is diecast Ertl farm trailer from the 70's. I didn't get a photo before I took the farm type tires off of it. Making brass fenders
Danno Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Nice job, Tom. Looks like one of those old U-Haul renters.
martinfan5 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Nice job, Tom. Looks like one of those old U-Haul renters. It does have that look to it
AzTom Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Thanks, First sorry about the blurry photo, it's the only one I have before it was painted. Brass drop down ramp. Ramp with Styrene strips super glued on for looks and primered. Gluing Styrene diamond plate on the deck Building a working jack stand.
W-409 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Good Job with the Trailer! Very nice and clean one. Can't wait to see it completed. I guess it didn't have any fenders originally?
AzTom Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Here is a photo of what the trailer started as, this one is for a future project. Painted and ready to go I made a Class 3 brass hitch for the truck (well, actually a Dodge ). I can post that build if anyone is interested. Thanks for following along.
Johnag4004 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 That look's great, may I ask how you do the soldering please...
AzTom Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 I use a Butane type mini torch, availble at most hardwares, Lowes and some hobby stores. The key is cleaning the joint area, I use steel wool. You want to make sure not to touch your cleaned area, oil from you finger will cause a poor joint. Tom
Johnag4004 Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 May I ask what kind of solder do you use also please, is it the same stuff you use for wiring... Sorry for the dumb question's...
AzTom Posted July 6, 2012 Author Posted July 6, 2012 Those are all good questions. You can use solder for wiring or for a little stronger joint go with solder for plumbing. Google "How To Solder Brass" and you should get everything you need to know including U-tube videos on soldering. Get some and start having fun. Tom
High octane Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Nice build on the trailer and it reminds me a bit of the trailer that Testors was offering and I usually saw them on the Hobby Lobby shelves.
Mercman Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 May I ask what kind of solder do you use also please, is it the same stuff you use for wiring... Sorry for the dumb question's... When I solder brass I use a silver solder. You can get it at Radio Shack.
