cobraman Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I built this ship for my BIL who was stationed on it when her was in the service. The board that is attached to the base is an actual piece of the flight deck from when the ship was decomishend. I think it is 1/700 scale if I remember right.
Jim B Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Nice carrier, and a very unique base. I'll bet most ship modelers can't say that their base is actually a piece of the flight deck!
Harry P. Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 That's a cool thing, the base being an actual part of the flight deck of the decommissioned ship.
bigphoto Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Very cool!! My dad served aboard her from late 1958 to 1960 when she had been redesignated as LPH-5.
moparmagiclives Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Very cool use of the deck. A nice little name plate from your local trophy shop with that info would be the icing on the cake.
cobraman Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 Shane, there is a brass name plate on the base. You can see part of it at the lower portion of the first photo.
moparmagiclives Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Ouch, from my phone it all looked like wood. Good job.
