W-409 Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) How could I make my own Drag Radialsin 1/25 Scale? I've been wondering this for a long time, but never realized, how I could do it. I'm wanting to have This: OR This: Style Drag Radials. Edited June 28, 2012 by W-409
Fat Brian Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Could you use an old style metal axle wheel to mount the tire on and then chuck it in a drill or Dremel tool and use a razor or PE saw to cut the grooves? You would have to make sure the tire turns really true so the grooves don't get too wide.
Casey Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Ma's Resin offers these, in case you don't want to make your own... If you do, start with a plain slick and add the grooves by removing material. IIRC, Al from Ma's resin started with an aluminum master, made a jig which rotated and stopped every few degrees, then routed out the grooves. The Hoosier tire pictured would be much easier to make, as you could put the tire on a lathe or drill and make the grooves. Some have suggested that kit-sourced NASCAR slicks are very close to the drag radial sizes, too.

W-409 Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Thanks for the help! My favorite style of Drag Radials is that Hoosier tire, luckily it's the easier one. Needs to try what I can do with the saw, I was going to order in just a couple of days. I know thoe Ma's Resin tires, but other Finnish Modeler ordered some parts from there. After four months, no one has answered to his order... That's why I guess I need to make my own. Patrick's link is very interesting too. But the problem with that is the grooves, they are not looking like real Drag Radials. Otherwise very good looking tires.
