biowear Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Does anyone else on here like tractor pulls because I would like to see if anyone else has ever built one. I know AMT had a kit back in the late 80's or early 90's but I still haven't got one of these yet, because they are so hard to find. So I am thinking about building one from scratch using Ross Gibson engines.
Fat Brian Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I love pulling stuff, I've got a few things in the works but nothing finished. You might want to contact Sean Stacey on here about engines, he was casting an Arias hemi from a pulling kit I traded him. You might also find this site helpful, http://pulling-reference.com/photo%20gallery.htm
Ben Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 There has actually been several "Tractor Pull" type models produced. There was the Blazing Bison tractor, the Tennesee Thunder funny car puller, the Pulldozer truck and the Orange Blossom Special pulling truck.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Wow! This topic just sent me back to the 1970's! Used to go to the tractor pulls every year at the county fairgrounds. There was a young lady I used to run around with there. I sure miss her. The tractor pulls not as much but still...
Modelcollector Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Here's my only pulling truck so far. I have another in the works. Grabbing up parts.
Fat Brian Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Are those tires from a Hotwheels monster truck? I've considered the same thing but I'm glad someone tried it before me, the look really good.
Modelcollector Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Yes they are Brian. The axles I used are from an AMT monster truck. I narrowed them up some and used metal axles through them. I epoxied the hubs from the monster truck kit into the back of the tires. Worked out just fine. Now, I need to find a few more of those axles and hubs....
Fat Brian Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 The axles from the newer 1/32 snap monster trucks are pretty nice but you have to close the top of them with sheet plastic, they are smaller versions of the ZF axles in the tube chassis Bigfoot/Snakebite kits.
XXXfire700 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 i am a huge fan of pulling tractors, trucks, super farm ect. i have a few pics of my puller i have been working on over the last few months. i would love to find ertls 1466 IH kit but i just have a hard time paying $130+ for something im just going to cut apart. i have made several diecast 1/16 an 1/64 pulling tractors.
Modelcollector Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 For other ideas, pictures and videos go to www.illinanpullers.com. They are the "local" sanctioning body.
biowear Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 wow Arnold that is awesome you did a good job,.. And Aaron keep up the good work its looking pretty good so far,I want to build one sometime soon but right now im realy into prostocks.
raildogg Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I have also wanted to scratch a pulling vehicle, but, I find it impossible to find suitable tire-rim combinations. What do you builders use? Nedd suggestions were to source them.
Fat Brian Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Alan Raab casts the wheels and tires from the Orange Blossom Special truck, the guys above used Hotwheels Monster Jam trucks for tires. OBS tire and wheel Here is a link to Alan's Fotki album, http://public.fotki.com/cnaind/
XXXfire700 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 to tell you the truth the orange blossom tires dont really look like the new duble cut pulling tires they now use. the best ones you can use is the 1/64 hot wheels monster jam trucks. i see im not the only one thats using them for there pull trucks too.
tooltas Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 very true the obs truck pulled the 80's wene the super mod 2wd class trucks were the new kids at the shows
Jordan White Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I built up a Pete 359 to run in the daily driven class.
Fat Brian Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I want to build some semi pullers as well, I want to put a KTA 600 in it and a few turbos.
tooltas Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 that revell truck race set would look right for a semi truck pulling team
XXXfire700 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 i always wanted to build the IH 4300 or the old COE IH. i haven't posted much in awhile but it was pulling season and over last winter i did a full resto of my real pulling truck so this kinda took a back seat. so i hope to get back into this project soon and finish a few others
chevyfever2009 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 There has actually been several "Tractor Pull" type models produced. There was the Blazing Bison tractor, the Tennesee Thunder funny car puller, the Pulldozer truck and the Orange Blossom Special pulling truck. Forgot one the mad mudder revell kit. I have all these except the pulldozer which is the same truck as the mad mudder
