parnelli jones marauder help

ok im hoping someone can help here. I'm looking to build parnelli jones 64 mercury marauder stock car he raced in 64-65. I know i read a thread somewhere and now cant seem to find it on how to build a more detailed chassis for this kit. I did acquire the suggested book by Bill Coulter in building and detailing scale model stock cars. In the book it states that you need the 64 marauder, 63 galaxie,66 fairlane, 57 fairlane. what is doesnt state is which one is used to the mate with the marauder body. pictures start out showing the mercury then somehow focus on the galaxie so im a little confused. can someone help?

I want to build one of these also at some point. I don't know about the 63 Galaxie kit, but I'm thinking the 60 Sunliner would be a good place to source the frame/chassis parts.

Yes the 60 Starliner chassis and floor pan fit perfect under the Marauder.

Along with the '60 Starliner youl want to rework the radiator support to remove the screw hole lugs from the old tool chassis. Although this is my stock build using the old tool separated chassis and floor pan it is close to what a kit bash can achieve. Parnelli's car is really neat, have fun and keep us posted.

So if I use this starliner chassis is the frame seperate from the undercarrige or does it require it to be cut away. The reason I ask is if so why wouldn't it be done to the marauder chassis. I know that the exhaust and all is molded in so that would require removal. Now if you are not planning to show off the bottom is there any other reasons for the chassis swap. I know that I will need to rework the interior cause of the rear bench seat.

Search out Dr. Jay. He built an excellent rendition of Fred Lorenzen's 63 Galaxie #28.. I think he frequents this form....

Darrin, build to the level you enjoy and build what you want to look at, a curbside version of this car would be very nice and would only require a stance adjustment to the original kit chassis and some side exhaust peeking out.

There was an excellent article in a back issue of SAE about just this swap,even covered how to adapt the '60 chassis to the old tool Ford (I used it for a Mercury). It's not exactly a drop on,but if your looking to do a high-detail build this is it. Even had a roll bar tutorial with it.

I did some further searching and found an even more detailed article in CAR MODELER 2002. This is the one that showed how to bend /make a roll bar jig and other tips about using the '60 sunliner chassis.

I don't usually build NASCAR stock cars,but that build was a real tour de force!! Excellent work!!
