Moon Pie Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Howdy all! Getting back into building after a 10 year hiatus. Thought I'd post a pic of one of my builds that was inspired by the real thing, that used to cruise our town in NE Ohio.
Daniel Peterson Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Cool '56! Yeah...I said 56...do the math, y'all! I like pretty much any tri-5 in yellow I guess. The back end reminds me of Project X, and the 55 front just looks good in yellow. Nicely executed! Thanks for posting it!
bsoder Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Well I'd hav'ta say the hiatus didn't hurt any,,thats a fine looking Chevy
novadose71 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I think I remember that car. Was it ever in some other magazine, say 10-12 years ago? If not there was a very similar one, even yellow and Cragar SS's, I have it here........somewhere. I always thought the two ends worked well together. Welcome back, you've missed some good stuff.

It was in Scale Auto Enthusiast Annual about 10 or 11 years ago. Showed it in 3 or 4 different shows and brought home the gold each time. The front end swap was actually not all that tough. The body lines matched up fairly well. I was a sophomore in high school, when I first saw the 1:1 version. The guy that owned it was a senior in auto shop. At that time he told me that it was a pretty straight forward bolt on job. It was my favorite of all the great cars that cruised our town. So, it was only natural that I build mine exactly like the 1:1 down to the Cragar SS mags.
ismaelg Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Great looking car! Everything about it is cool: the conversion, stance, color etc. The conversion looks so natural! Welcome back to the hobby! Thanks,
The Red Ranger Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I think I've seen that model before, these shows that you were at, was one of them at graves county highschool in graves county, kentucky? I had a Dodge Ram Pickup at the same contest in which i took first place for Junior Stock class or whatever. But this car is simply beautiful, almost thought it was real for a second.
Moon Pie Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 Thanks to all for the very kind compliments. It's a nice welcome back to the hobby! My youngest son and I spent part of the morning digging out our model stuff, and I found a couple better pics of "Trixie".
MrObsessive Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 I had to do a double take to realize that Hey!.............That's a '55 front on a '57 car! Actually, back in the '60's that was probably not to uncommon for a someone who punched the front end of their '57 to replace it with a '55 front clip................the cars weren't worth a whole lot then and no one thought much of it. Very convincing conversion you got!
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Wow, I think they should have made the '57 that way from the factory, looks better than the regular bulky '57 grille and bumper combo.
ramonesblues Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 A '55 front end won't fit on a '57. the cowl area is way different. It will fit on a '56. I tried it on my '57 back in the seventies. Still, it looks cool.
geetee66 Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Cool! I had to do a double-take as well...! Nicely done custom. I hope you start building more... nice one!
