Mike Kucaba Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I tried to list some kits(about 40) on emodelcars. I could not download my photo(only one) as it was 5,943.81 KBYTES. the limit is 250KBYTES. So how would a good analogy of this be in size relation to a car.(something I understand) Yes I'm having problems with listing on emodelcars. Yes I know it's FREE. I would rather have it easier and pay.
Chief Joseph Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Well the analogy might be you want to sell a Corvette to a guy, but he only has the money for a Geo Metro. You have to shrink your file size either through rescaling or compressing.
Fat Brian Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 How big is your image in pixels, that will give us a way to calculate how small to make it. Also, if it is in .bmp or something the first step would be to convert it to a .jpg which has some compression to it.
Harry P. Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 As you can see by the numbers, your photo is waaaaaaaaay too big. 24 times too big, to be exact. It's like comparing the size of a model with the real car. You have to drastically downsize it to get it under the 250kb limit. If you don't know how to do that, reshoot the photo at the lowest quality (smallest image) setting your camera has.
sjordan2 Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 You can also open your image in a new window on your computer, make the window smaller than your screen, select Scale to Fit and take a screen shot of it (if you know how to crop into the image to make the screen shot, so much the better). Then post it here so we can see what you're dealing with. The thing is, if you're trying to cover a whole bunch of subject matter in one shot, it's going to end up very small and you're better off taking several small-size shots.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) Screen Cap of the original photo. Should be around 37kbs in size in screen cap format. Edited July 19, 2012 by zerodude
kobuzz Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 If you don't know how to resize pics you can do what I used to until I figured it out. List it on Craigslist and when you upload the pic it will resize it for you. When the ad is done go to it and right click and save the pic. It will now be a manageable size. After you save the pic then cancel the craigslist ad. Yea I know it's a lot of extra steps but it worked.
Terry Sumner Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Download a photo editing program called Irfanview. It's free at www.irfanview.com It's a VERY easy to use photo editor. You can open your photo in it, easily resize it...I usually resize to the option of "Best fit to screen size". And then when you save the photo a little box comes up that asks you at what quality you want to save it as...anywhere from 0 to 100. For internet postings I usually choose approximately 50% and I end up with a picture under 100kb! I've been using it for...well...since I've been on the internet practically. And it will do a whole host of other things for you too. And did I mention it was free?
tabsscale1 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Yes Terry that is probably the best progrm to use to resize pics. Been using that one for well over 10 years myself. Been setting my Camera for smaller pics though now so haven't used it in awhile
martinfan5 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Agree with Terry, Irfanview is what I use, its very easy to use

Mike Kucaba Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Thanks for all your suggestions. I did want the pic(s) to be as clear as possible. I uploaded them to my PB site and they are clear AND smaller. I may just list them on Craigslist and/or ebay.
