I recently had an old post from On The Workbench moved to another section. It's my 85 GMC Van thread that was moved to the Pickups, Vans, SUF's and Light Commercial Trucks section. Yes, this is a van but It's a work-in-progress and that's where I would like it to be. I'm a bit bothered by all the delineating sections and only use the View New Content link here so breaking things into 50 sections means nothing. I know this was all discussed and I also am fine with it. With all the separate categories almost nothing should be in the On The Workbench or Under Glass sections.

So, the way things are I wish my thread to be placed back where I originally posted it. When it's completed, I might put it in the Van section but don't berate me if it goes Under Glass ... where I really believe it belongs.

If we are to have all these breakdowns there needs to be at least a section under every category or the general Under Glass and On-the-Workbench sections should be deleted.

It's all just confusing and moving a two year old thread does not clear anything up.

Thanks for listening and back to the workbench. :)

I have to agree with you on this Mike. I thought it was a work in progress first, and that some latitude should be given to O.P. to put it where he thinks it should be, within the forum guidelines of course.

Kind of like when someone enters a contest and chooses to put, for example that van, in curbside instead of trucks. If it meets the basic requirement it should be up to the participant...

It's not like you were posting it in both Trucks and On The Bench at the same time, that's just plain tacky.

It's not confusing at all if you would just bother to read the category descriptions, which are clear and specific.

We have a Cars section with several Car subsections.

We have a Trucks section with several Truck subsections.

It really can't be much simpler than that. I really don't see why anyone would have a problem with such a simple thing as posting a topic in the correct place. This isn't exactly rocket science, people. Let's stop making a mountain out of a molehill and creating a "problem" where there is none.

If anyone actually has a problem understanding the concept of posting a topic where it belongs (as opposed to posting to just complain), PM me and I'll explain it to you.

Passenger vans are considered wagons, but a car-based station wagon wouldn't be moved to the truck section, would it?

Sure, some might argue that because a van is truck-based it belongs in the trucks category, but what about something like a sedan delivery? It is based on a car platform, but it is a commercial vehicle. Should it go in the general 'Under Glass' section with the cars or in with the trucks?

The forum categories are specific- but vehicle designations aren't always.

Pickups, Vans, SUVs, and Light Commercial Trucks

Post your in-progress or finished pickups, vans, SUVs, or other non-big rig trucks here.

Seriously? You don't understand that?

Sometimes it's not clearcut, you just have to use your own best judgement. But 99% of the time it's pretty clear as to what goes where.

The only thing that is 'bothering' me, is communication. I had a couple of topics posted in a wrong section (I disagree, but it isn't a big deal) and the topics were moved. So far I am fine with it, but the lack of communication is bothersome, it would be nice to be notified when a topic is moved.

I know it is a lot more work for the moderators, but it does help with understanding. It is annoying to look for one of your own topics in a section and can't find it, after realising it must be moved, the great search starts to find where it went to.

Back in the day when I was moderator/administrator on one or two big forums, we either sent the TS a pm. or moved the post with leaving a ghost in the original section.

In fairness to Mike, he started his post long before the forum was re-organzied, which is why it was in the Model Cars "Under Glass" section, then moved to the Model Trucks "In Progreess & Under Glass" once that section was created.

Gregg has tried very hard to impress upon evryone that the Model Cars Magazine froum is a community, defined as "a group of people with a common interest working together in a common location", so let's please try a little harder to think about what works best for everyone, rather than what we, as individuals, want to see changed to suit out personal taste.

Harry has stated many time theres, you can't please everyone.

See this post, which I just pinned. It details how to quickly and easily find all of your posts: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61235&st=0

Yes, there are grey areas and some overlap, the perfect exmaple being your current SuperVan SRT build, which has remained in the Model Cars section, instead of being moved to the Model Trucks section. It's half Ferrari and half Caravan, whereas Mike's van is, well, 100% van, so it belongs in the Model Trucks section.

I see what you did there.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular, but I have noticed some "Your post will never be seen there" and "That section hardly get any traffic at all" type comments lately, as if there is an award handed out for the most viewed topics or most comments received. One of the beautiful things about this fourm is it can be both a huge ego booster and a harsh reality check, often times in the same post. I think some people get caught up in how many replies and comments their work does or doesn't receive, and forget about the whole reason this forum exists- to share your work with others, as part of a community.

I appreciate the comments and it stays in the Vans section I guess.

I am happy to say the the saved link I had for the thread from before there was a truck section still goes to the thread. :)

This thread can be locked as far as I'm concerned ... question answered and I don't want to re-start a discussion.
