Scottnkat Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Here's some pics of the JoHan Superbird I completed a while back. It was built pretty much box-stock. Sorry I hadn't posted in a while. Edited July 23, 2012 by Scottnkat
Bartster Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Very nice, Scott. Your collection ought to be looking pretty full! Nice to see some fresh work from you. Bart.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Well done! Obviously a bird from the latter half of the season judging by the window net.
Scottnkat Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 Correct, Kevin - this was modeled from the Riverside race in June of 1970. Thanks for the comments, guys.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Thought I should expand a bit for those who don't know. At the 1970 Rebel 400 at Darlington, Richard Petty (during practice) rolled his Superbird down the frontstretch. Barrell rolling going into and end over end, Richards car rolled over seventeen times and all but demolished the concrete barrier between the track and pit road. In all this, the only injury Richard sustained was a dislocated shoulder from his left arm flopping out of the window although he was nearly thrown from the car. Richard and his wife Linda together, invented the window net almost emmediately. (most of the credit goes to Linda! ) The following year all side window glass was outlawed and the window net was required safety equipment. Edited July 23, 2012 by MAGNUM4342
Scottnkat Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Wonderful idea, Jacen. I didn't notice that before, but now that you pointed it out, I am sure going to get that done. Thanks for the heads up.
jjsipes Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Scott I really enjoy seeing your Petty builds. They have all looked awesome great job.
retroguy Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I started building race cars,I switched from factory for now(gets hard finding correct colors sometimes) great looking build, what color blue is that...
Harry P. Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Nice! Back from the days when NASCAR (and the cars) were interesting.
Scottnkat Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Thanks for the comments, all. Michael, the blue is a light blue made by Rustoleum mixed with a little bit of white enamel. I am on a strict budget, so I have to make due with what I can many times. This way, I get enough paint for four cars or so for only about $4.
Rob Spires Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Looks great! Any chance we could get a group shot? You've done about as many as Petty Enterprises did…haha

Jim N Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Very well done. The tires tuck up into the fenders quite well.
