I read Hot Rod magazine and I think I remember hearing of an electric (external?) water pump. This would be in 1/24 scale. If I could see a picture of one of these, or any other ideas. I'd be grateful!

Not to argue the point, but whether electric or belt driven, most water pumps are external. Before the one in the link above, Jabsco was one used a lot in the early years. That one that bolts to the stock configured water passages is pretty slick.

Electric water pumps have been common, (both bolted to the block in the stock location and remotely located) on drag racing engines in particular, for many years. Do a simple google image search for "electric racing water pump". You'll get all you need to know.

I've used the Jabsco pumps on roadracers since the '60s. Heck even Harbor Fright sells a 260gph marine pump for under $50. Just gut your water pump and install these pumps in the radiator hoses.

First ones I ever saw were on Brian Chuchua's front-blown Bonneville-prepped and record setting Corvette in the late '50s. With the blower driven directly by the crank and mounted to the timing-cover, there was nowhere to mount a stock-style pump. I believe he did use two marine pumps in re-located hoses.
