DIY 62 Bonneville? Actually a '60.....

The first, and favorite, car my Dad ever owned was a 62 Bonneville convertible. I want to build one for him. However, I am finding that 62 Bonneville convertible models are very rare and if I do happen to find one, rather expensive. So my questions to you all.... the masters.

If I decide to go another route, is there a suitable kit than can be modified to become a 62 Bonneville? A 60 or 61 Bonneville? Or even a Catalina? Or even a Chevy or any other GM of the same year? I'm up for some suggestions. No matter how outlandish they might seem.

you might try R&R.....they have listed a 62 Bonne hardtop, which could be easily converted. $53.00 not cheap but a lot less than the actual kit.

If I do end up going this route, which model do you recommend I get for the convertible conversion and also for the motor and wheels, etc... that don't come with the resin kit?

Ok... I got some more info on my Dad's '62 Bonneville..... It was actually a '60 Bonny. not a '62. So... I did some research and found a trumpeter 1:25 scale model. Does anybody know anything about this kit? I'm probably going to try and get it regardless, I just want to know if anyone has experience with it and what they thought of it.

They make it in tudor hardtop and convertible versions, these are very detailed kits with lots of delicate parts and working steering that includes functional steering wheel and photo-etched hood hinges that work when assembled correctly. I have a couple because I think one will make a great El Camino type sport truck.

And...the down side of this kit...

The exterior engraved trim is very weak and may disappear if you look at it too hard, the good news is that there is a PE set for this kit.

I've got one of the 60 bonnevilles by Trumpeter. It's a nice kit. There's some weirdness in the engine, but once the kit is all together it comes out pretty nice. I'll post pics of mine as soon as I can. I do recommend the PE kit from Model Car Garage. The lettering on the kit is wrong.
