sjordan2
Is there a readily available spray paint that's closer to charcoal than a rich black? I need it for a 1/16 fabric convertible top and cylinder head. Sounds like something that military modelers might know about.
Foxer
I like Floquil Weathered Black when I need something that shade. Might still be a bit too light for charcoal black. Hard to tell from a computer image, I know.

Hard to tell from a computer image, I know. Looks like something I could work with, but it's in a bottle and not a rattle can spray, which I need for an overall even look, and I don't have an airbrush. I guess I should look at Duplicolor. Just wondered if anyone had used something like what I was looking for. Edited August 14, 2012 by sjordan2

Mike Kucaba
It might be available in spray under their Railroad Colors line.

mikemodeler
Look at Tamiya Spray lacquers. They have some military (flat) colors and regular gloss colors that may come close. Some are available online at Modelroundup and Tower Hobbies.
sjordan2
Thanks Mike. I've seen online examples of NATO black that look good, but someone mentioned it had a green tinge to it. Is that so? I ask all these questions because I can't afford to experiment with multiple purchases. Marc @ MPC Motorsports
Skip, Tamiya has a lot of flat greys in their lacquer spray line. Can you post a pic of the color you are trying to replicate? I have several different shades of these paints in my collection and would be happy to do some spoon tests and post pics. Guest G Holding
Nato black has a sheen to it and is not flat....IMHO...good bet.
jeffs396
Skip, is this gray the right shade? This is Duplicolor hot rod gray primer. Goes on smooth and can be buffed slightly (as my Olds has) or sprayed over a texture paint for a different effect.
sjordan2
That looks just about right, Jeff. Thanks to all of you.
