shafer Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 this was built from a plain roadrunner kit , details not all the way accurate but wanted to represent a rendition of this car for a showing of the complete step by step build click here http://pettymodelcars.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=13793947 thank you so much for looking at my kits.
Scale-Master Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Please tell me again..., How can it be "scratchbuilt" if it was built from a kit?
Harry P. Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I don't think the tires sticking out past the body sides would ever have made it past NASCAR tech inspections.

This kit is not a dedicated Petty roadrunner parts were from a roadrunner kit, amt ford tbird kit , amt nascar kit for wheels, yes some of the roll cage is scratch built, as were the headlight, tailight covers, and rear spoiler some of this kit even came from a dodge dart dragcar kit. I beleive if a kit doesn't exist and you make it with what you have available then it is scratch built. I could be wrong. Edited August 15, 2012 by shafer

I know - stock car tires and wheels are too big but it would not do to use street tires on an after 1969 racecar, as stated in the 1st post , it is not exact , it is just a representation. thanks for all the comments on this kit. I have other petty kits in the works

The correct definition of scratchbuilt is that the builder made the parts from raw materials. Just sourcing parts from other kits and combining them to make something that is not a factory produced kit is actually called kitbashing.
