Ken McGuire Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I've just come back to model building after many, many years - and hope my old (65yr old) eyes and hands keep up to my enthusiasm - and am re-learning skills. I've ordered a kit of the '41 Pittman Willys and believe it contains a hemi. I think I would like to incorporate the original Olds motor and am wondering what would be the best bet for that engine? For example, I understand that the Beatnik Bandit kit has an Olds motor. As a secondary question, what is the best way to remove chrome from kit engines? I would prefer to paint certain parts in aluminum/magnesium/etc. rather than bright chrome.
nascarfan Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Bleach will remove chrome, 90% rubbing alcohol will to. For the olds motor not sure if the new 70 drop top would be period correct but it has the best detail.
slusher Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Purple power will remove chrome and strip paint and a gallon is real reasonable at walmart...
Fuel Coupe Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 find an earlier revell 41 willys. it has the olds engine as well as the doors and trunk open..
kitswapper Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) The old AMT 41 Willys kit also has a Olds engine and usally can be found on ebay. Edited August 20, 2012 by kitswapper
Gluhead Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Beatnik Bandit, Thames Panel, Anglia also have the 394. If I remember right, the BB one is all chrome, too. They are a little fiddly, but can look very good with a little patience.
Ken McGuire Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Thanks guys, I'll look for the other kits mentioned.
