Mercman Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Here's a new kit out now in the stores. Yes it's 1/87th scale. Should be easy to convert to this.
High octane Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Now yer talkin'. 1/87th scale, is that for a model railroad?
Harry P. Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Now yer talkin'. 1/87th scale, is that for a model railroad? 1/87 is HO scale, a common model RR scale.
kruleworld Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 of course, that means you'd have to do your custom 50s rods in 1/87. better to get it in 1/25 scale. Sadly the original Mel's Diner was pulled down shortly after the movie was finished.
High octane Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I hafta agree with you 100% George as it would make life a LOT easier and easy is good in my book.
Harry P. Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 That would be cool in 1/25, but it would be huge! Not many people would have the space to display a diorama that big.
GTMust Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 What's stopping anyone scratchbuilding it in a larger scale? It's mostly glass (clear styrene) and there's all kinds of reference photos if you Google for them........ But like you said Harry....... that would make for one HUGE dio!
Mercman Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Ya know what a guy could do a half version of it. Yeah a full size would be big, But a killer idea. That would be cool in 1/25, but it would be huge! Not many people would have the space to display a diorama that big. What's stopping anyone scratchbuilding it in a larger scale? cobraman Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Would'nt be too bad if you could just build the front half against a flat back gound. Well beyond my meger talents.
57peppershaker Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Somebody I know bought this, after it had sat for many years. Pics moved to own thread, so not to hijack. Edited September 5, 2012 by 57peppershaker
Mercman Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Would'nt be too bad if you could just build the front half against a flat back gound. Well beyond my meger talents. You'll never know till you try.
7000in5th Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Also just announced from Moebius in HO (1:87) scale but it is apparently an exact replica of Mel's. It could be used to get dimensions: David
57peppershaker Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Thats very nice. Shame its 1;87, tho 1;25 would be very big & very expensive. I have trouble focusing on 1;25 scale !
scummy Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I gota get me some of those . When they comin out ?
george 53 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 If you think THAT would take up space, try buildin 24th/25th scale Airplanes. They are beautiful to look at when finished, but MAN do they take up ALOT of space!!!! Kinda remind me of all the space my old 1/8th kits used to take up!
High octane Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I picked up a couple of 1/28th scale airplane kits last year that I hope to start on this coming winter.
