Callaway MX

I started this shortly after the Callaway speedster came out (early 90's). Like peanut butter falling into chocolate I found the wheelbase of the AMX was almost the same as the speedster and decided to kitbash. Just used the AMX body, the rest is a mishmash of Speedster,ZR-1,and 90's GS vettes. I used the ZR-1 engine with Callaway twin turbos/intercoolers. It will be red,white,blue of course, not sure on the interior color. I hit a snag with the roof spoiler(wasn't sure if I cared for it), so I finished a another lingering project in the meantime, now it's time to resume and the spoiler stays. Oh yeah, as a club challenge, I agreed to have this done mid Sept!!!!!! I don't think I'll finish by then, so I am going to keep working on this thing until it's finally finished.............or I die, whichever comes first. I welcome all opinions, good bad or otherwise

Very nice concept, I always liked the AMXs. One of the more over looked cars.

That's really cool

AMX's are one of the cooler cars that have been overshadowed by the other pony cars. This one looks almost like one of their factory concepts. I think Dick Teague would heartily approve of it.

Yes, keep the spoiler. It fits with the rest of styling. Always liked the 60s and 70s era of factory concept and dream cars, this one really is of that style. You must finish it!

The daisy wheels look right, very similiar to the factory concept Radir style they used. Milberry has a good point about the side pipes, if you really want to emphasize the concept theme.

The roof spoiler works well, just seems a bit tall. I can see, though, that it would be a chore to make it shorter, since that looks like another kit piece modified.

I love it...I love to see it when we break the shackles of the "kit" and stretch our imagination. That is a beautiful thing. Every now and then it is so cool to build your own creation. Nice work, keep it going.

Thanks everybody. I always liked the way this one was going, it's always been in my display case, so I could come up with idea's by stareing at it. Yes, the roof spoiler was cut from a second AMX body, narrowed, and sanded close to fitting. Sidepipes of some sort are on the agenda, I mocked some up out of alum. tube that tuck up under the rockers, but have yet to check my parts box for other options. I should look into photo-etch mesh for heat shields too. Anyone have any idea's where to look. I'm thinking military model suppliers might have something. Also toying with a 71 AMX rear spoiler but I haven't decided if it would be over spoiled.

Here is my inspiration for my paint scheme, 1968 AMX GT , I am also gathering parts and info. to build this car at a later date, I allready have a topless Amx body waiting.

I have HoK candy red and blue, which I might reverse on the Callaway car, and the stripe will be a little different than this. Will be solid down the sides of car, and will "strobe" up and over roof spoiler, maybe strobes into the hood scoops as well. I don't know if I will paint the stripes on or attempt to cut them out of white decal paper.
