jonno356SC Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Hi guys, Been working on this model for a while as part of the Foreign CBP. But I think it's closing and I'm not done. So I thought I'd share the progress here. Love to hear any comments. THANKS
blackandwhite Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 glad i can be the first to say..amazing. This is awesome work and it looks great well done
sportandmiah Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Excellent details! What kit is this?
TheGrandfatherHobbies Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 great work!! love the spare strap!
jonno356SC Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Thanks guys! This is an old Monagram 1:24 kit I bought on Ebay. I dont think it's a particularly great kit. There was a ton of sink holes in the body that need repair. The chrome plating was terrible, necessitating stripping of everything, and some key detail parts were missing, like that topedo blower in the engine. Having said that, I love the subject. AND because the kit is kinda crappy, it forces me to hone my skills. I am new to building and I love the challenge of making it look realistic. All the engine details are scratch, and the tire strap is something I have never done before. Making that roller tongue buckle too some practice as you can see from my failed attempts. I'll keep you posted on the progress. I am in the home stretch! Thanks again Jon
simonr Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Wow, at least a Porsche 904 thread!!...You're doing a great work on this one than I know its a real bad kit to finish up correctly and you're doing an excellent work here. Keep us updated on this prodject. Simón P. Rivera Torres
Foxer Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Beautiful work on a beautiful car .. and ugly kit!
george 53 Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 You sure are turnin a sows ear into a purse with this one! i have this kit and it sure didn't come out as nice as yours! This shows your are a BRAVE man, Jon! Your doin GREAT! I noticed My engine looks nowhere as nice as yours! It IS a BEAUTIFUL looking car though, isn't it? My old high school auto shop teacher, Mr. Armstrong, had one. He LOVED Porsches.
3men2s Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 LOOKS AMAZING, THE DETAILS SO FAR HAVE GIVEN THIS OLD GEEZER SOEM LIFE
Cato Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 You're new to building and you've put emulsion tubes in the Weber intakes in 1/24th???? You sure know how to rub it in. I can't look at my stuff after this.....
jonno356SC Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks so much guys! WOW @ Cato, I just had to put those tubes in. The original parts were full chromed and solid. Just doesn't look right. @ George, thanks. Any chance I could see a pic of your build? I'll keep you posted as I work to finish soon(er). Jon
Crazy Ed Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Jon, what a wonderful build of what at best is a poor kit for fit. Wondering what size tubing you used for the Aux. Venturi (the small rod inside the intake horn)? I'm goning to be following this build to the end.
jonno356SC Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks Ed! Believe it or not it's painted electrical wire I stripped. Rod was too big. Lol
bryan_m Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 HOLY COW!! that is beautiful man! the dash looks incredible, and i like all the detail you have added, the fuel tank plumbing, seat belts........it all looks great! cheers bryan
Crazy Ed Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Thanks Ed! Believe it or not it's painted electrical wire I stripped. Rod was too big. Lol Well I'll be! Any chance of a closeup shot of them on a scale with the Strap holders?
jonno356SC Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 Hey Ed, I will try and find the wire and post a pic. In the meantime, I thought I'd post a few more pics of the build since you guys seem so interested, which I REALLY appreciate.
Crazy Ed Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Jon, the combination of your prior description of the Aux. Venturi material and the new Pics have answered my question. Thank You. A side note for any interested in building one of these. There are 2 different Monogram 904 kit's out there. One has Skill 3 on it kit # 2954 which is the one Jon is building and the other is Curbside. So remember no Level 3, no Engine.
jonno356SC Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 Hi all. I rebuilt the dash. Was not happy with the 5-min epoxy. So redid gauges this time making plexi-disc for lenses. Not PE key
Crazy Ed Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Jon, well done. The texture on the Dash looks about perfect for 1:1 krinkle finish that was popular back in the era. Well done.
