mnwildpunk Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I know this is going one of those questions that has many answers and all of them based on personal opinion. Believe me or not I have never built a model of a model (that sounds wierd) T. or A. But I helped a lot on a build of a real 29T roadster not a phoney fiberglass one all 70+ yr old metal. That was a fellow club member's. Of the kit that are on hobby shop shelves now which should I avoid? What are the better kits out there? Which kits are easier to modify? Thank you for any info you have
southpier Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 i don't know anyone who doesn't have something good to say about this: http://www.round2models.com/models/amt/25ford-t
Chuck Most Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Sorry... I'm a bit confused by your question. There was no 1929 T. 1928 was the first year for the Model A, the T having been disconinued the year before. But, as far as Model T's go, it's hard to top any of the AMT kits, '25 in chopped and stock height coupes (with optional roadster bodies) or the '27 Phaeton, which is a little light on hot rod parts compared to the '25's but still just as adaptable as the 1:1/ For Model A's- AMT makes a '29 Roadster that's pretty nice, and builds up stock or as a Hemi-powered hot rod. There is no fenderless building option, but you can build it that way if you cut the fenders off the floorpan. Revell's '29 pickup and '31 Tudor are the best thing out there as far as Model A kits go (just my opinion there), and you can use the more detailed Revell chassis under the AMT body with minimal fuss if that's your thing.
mnwildpunk Posted October 12, 2012 Author Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) Sorry about that I'm not a ford guy I just know a bunch of us are helping a guy in our club on a ford I think I got a couple pics around here somewhere here we go sorry they are dark but hank doesn't have alot of light in there. Teach me oh wise ones. I want to learn. I remember hank talking about the lines on the cowl something like you can tell different years that way. The sad thing is us 4 guys did that probably 8-10 years ago. It hasn't been touched since. That's a Olds rocket under the cover and he has a real choice paige radiator to go in front. Feel free to knock my automotive credit down a few pegs for my foul up. I thought I knew what he had. Now if it was a dodge plymouth chrysler products I know most of my stuff I think. I learn new stuff everyday. But thanks for the info on kits so far. Edited October 12, 2012 by mnwildpunk
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 (edited) The line that swoops forward and down ahead of the doors is the big giveaway for the '28-'29 Model A. The '30-'31 As don't have it. There are tons of other differences, but that's the biggie that's immediately obvious. I agree that the old AMT '28-29 roadster is a very nice bodyshell. Pair it with one of the Revell model A frames that Chuck mentioned (also under the vintage '31 1/25 scale woody and sedan delivery) and you have a very accurate model. The radiator shells are very different on the '28-'29 cars as opposed to the '30-'31 cars too. Just do a google image search and the differences will be readily apparent. There is no '30-'31 roadster body shell in a 1/24 or 1/25 kit, but vintage Monogram offerings include a cabriolet in 1/24, as well as a coupe and another woody. It looks like the car in your photo is possibly a cabriolet (welded-on windshield frame, as opposed to bolted on, foldable one of a roadster) with the windshield cut and layed back a bit. The doors look like they're possibly cut down from a closed-cab pickup, but I could be mistaken. Edited October 12, 2012 by Ace-Garageguy
mnwildpunk Posted October 12, 2012 Author Posted October 12, 2012 No you got it right we cut down the window and laid it back just like you said. I don't remember much about the doors. My mind is fuzzy on a lot things I think I got sometimers disease
Guest G Holding Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 The 29 RPU kit is a good kit...lots of different looks. I put the flattie from the 32 kit in mine
