Volvoman Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Hi folks, just finished my latest project, a Mercedes Benz 500sec. This model was given to me by a good friend who was thinning out his Mercedes model kit collection on the understanding of me 'doing a good job on it'. It is the old Tamiya kit from the 80,s and has been painted in Ford Paris Blue Metallic which I have been told is a very close match to a similar Mercedes colour and has had Bare Metal Foil used throughout on the body. The interior has been painted in Tamiya deck tan and fine mesh was used on the headrests after being drilled out. An Eduard photoetch mobile phone and holder were fixed to the dashboard( bought whilst on a trip to the states last year, never seen them here in the U.K!!) and K.F.S. supplied the front and rear numberplates, tax disc and resin baseball cap on the rear parcel shelf. My friend has since seen the completed model and has asked if he can swop it back for another one of his unbuilt kits! I have told him that this one is staying with me! As usual, all comments are welcome and thanks for looking. <a href="http://s1107.beta.photobucket.com/user/markr3/library/" target=_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/markr3/2012-10-14110429.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a> <a href="http://s1107.beta.photobucket.com/user/markr3/library/" target=_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/markr3/2012-10-14110417.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a> <a href="http://s1107.beta.photobucket.com/user/markr3/library/" target=_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/markr3/2012-10-14110354.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a> <a href="http://s1107.beta.photobucket.com/user/markr3/library/" target=_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/markr3/2012-10-14110404.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a> <a href="http://s1107.beta.photobucket.com/user/markr3/library/" target=_blank"><img src="http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/markr3/2012-10-14110304.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a>
kratvmnd Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Great job.Looks nice. I'm working on one as motivation to start an Otaki 1/12 450 SLC. It was supposed to be a quick out of box build, but it's such a nice kit, (especially for being 25-30 years old!) and somewhat on the rare side,so I want to take the time to do it right. Nice job on the headrests, that is a huge improvement!
Simon Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Lovely job, Mark. I might have to try an SEC one of these days. The paintjob goes really well with the wheels. That mobile phone is ace, is it part of some kind of accessory kit?
Foxer Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Very nice build! .. not to mention the great photo job ... even the sun flares!
Volvoman Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys, I will try to answer your questions. kratvmd, this too was going to be a quick build but like you say, it is quite a rare kit so it made sense to make a decent job of it, my friend would never had forgiven me otherwise and thanks for the comments on the headrests. simon, the mobile phone is from a company called Eduard who normally do a lot of photoetch for the military modellers so I was suprised to find a 1/24 mobile phone fret whilst on holiday in the states last year. Each fret has about 20 different styles of phones so you would have plenty for future projects; check out their website and see what they have got to offer. foxer, the photos were taken on my mobile phone and the car was sat on my front wall, it was fairly early in the morning and the sun was quite low; I personally was'nt happy with the pics but after your comments , i'm thinking that maybe they are'nt too bad. Thanks again guys for all your comments.
MyBradKeselowski Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Very sharp looking Mercedes, I like the color...
