Ace-Garageguy Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 ......fender skirts or no? I kinda like the black-wheel 'this-is-a-fast-car-don't-mess-with-it' look you've already got going.
tubbs Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I told ya those pre clear pics didn't do the colour any justice. yes urethane clear is pretty awesome but once you mix a batch ya better use it all or be prepared to pour it out. sweet build you have going. my opinion, i'd run the steelies just the way it is!! btw, can you tell me what urethane clear you are using? never used it before, thought i may give it a try, have no clue where to start.
MachinistMark Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Not even sure its urethane. Its a 2 part clear 4:1 mix ratio . One guy at the paint store said it was urethane, then the next time I bought it a diff parts guy said it wasn't. Either way the brand is pro form I'll snap pics of the cans when I get home from work. Thanks for the comments as well guys. Means a lot!
MachinistMark Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Ugh 4 more hours till I can work on this some more! Come on 4 30! Gonna pick up a circle template on the way home to paint the white walls. I'll probably machine my own kit style hubcaps out of stainless steel and polish em up this weekend.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I'll probably machine my own kit style hubcaps out of stainless steel and polish em up this weekend. THAT should be cool.......
MachinistMark Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Yeah. Those or a set of salt flat style moon discs...

Means a lot! thanks for the reply. i am not a big fan of this kit, but this thread is slowly changing my mind. very nice clean build and that clear really makes that paint pop!!!
tubbs Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 still like it with just the steelies......... looking great!!
MachinistMark Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Why aren't you a fan? The thing falls together!
tubbs Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Why aren't you a fan? The thing falls together! dont really know..... lots of them out there, so i must be in the minority. i'd judt tub it anyways. really like yours though. a true hot rod!!
MachinistMark Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks boss. Wish I had some speed parts to dress up the rocket a bit. Oh well.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Thanks boss. Wish I had some speed parts to dress up the rocket a bit. Oh well. The wide-whites and steel wheels look great.....fast car, no BS statement. And, I've got some Olds speed parts I would consider trading for stock valve-covers, manifolds, etc.
zaina Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 This thing is lookin great. Those Wheels would look good with a set of chrome spiders or swap them out for a set of chrome reverse wheels. Either way I like it
MachinistMark Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Ace, you have mail. Zaina I would love to run a set of spider caps, but have none. I'm still undecided on hub caps or plain steelies... I'll throw the caps on tonight and see how they look. This thing really is just falling together... haven't had this easy of a build since the 48 ford custom I did a year ago
charlie8575 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Those whitewalls look nice; I'm almost definitely going to paint mine- the decals just don't look right to me. I have to agree Mark, the little bit I've built of mine, and this thing is almost Shake 'n Bake assembly. Revell did a very good job on this. Charlie Larkin
MachinistMark Posted October 19, 2012 Author Posted October 19, 2012 Thanks charlie! My first time painting ww's. Used 15/16's circle.
MachinistMark Posted October 20, 2012 Author Posted October 20, 2012 No major progress beyond me starting to wet sand the body. Tomorrow I hope to get back to the bench and log some decent time on it.
