southpier Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 TRJ #56 page #10 - Reed Jensen's A-V8. powered by 296 c.i. '48 Mercury flathead with 2 McCulloch centrifugal blowers! anyone suggest how this could be modeled? i know the resin companies have the blowers, mill & carburetors fairly straightforward, but how to go about making the snakepit of tubing? not the tubing itself, but rather where it starts & stops.
Jantrix Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 not the tubing itself, but rather where it starts & stops. Without a pic my first thought is a couple of a couple of aluminum sleeves?
southpier Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 i tried to get a picture from TRJ website but no luck. and evidently my, or perhaps the owner's, google-foo is weak because a search there turned up nothing either.
Crazy Ed Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Just a guess, but the twin blowers/pulleys and belt assembly from the AMT Avanti kit ought to be a good start. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/amt-12/amt-gran-turismo-av/file6.html Look at the optional version on the right.
southpier Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 the 2 blowers are mounted on top over each head. maybe i can scan & post the picture from the TRJ article. reading the rest of it, this is a quintessential example of the A-V8.
southpier Posted November 3, 2012 Author Posted November 3, 2012 (edited) beautiful! i remember Almquist ads in my older cousin's hot rod books when i was a kid. so picture 2 of those blowers and the carbs mounted up over the oil filler up against the firewall. i gotta scan the picture..... Ace-Garageguy Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) That's one bizarre induction system. Man. Sounds like a pressure-retard distributor (turbo Corvairs had them, among others...probably the turboed 215 Olds V8 unit would work...) might cure his detonation problem under boost.
