Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks, everyone. I am making slow progress, but it's a cold and rainy day anyway, perfect for just working with the naked styrene. Top came off without too much drama: Every time I look at these wheels I see mud!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 From this angle, this thing almost looks like a VW Beetle. As I mentioned earlier, I am using all the parts from the gasser kit, except for the wheels and a few engine parts.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Smile! You are on WILLI GONE WILD! :D
shucky Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Very cool DC! I'm tuned in ready for more wild goodness!!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks, Mike and Corey. Working on cleaning and prepping all the parts for final primer and then painting.
Ira Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) GREAT START DR.!!! Looking forward to seeing you throwing some MuD on the Willys. This should be FUN... Edited November 15, 2012 by Ira
Dr. Cranky Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks, Ira. Working on a roll cage after I get back home from work. I spent some time designing it. Stay tuned in for more.
Sixx Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) Ok now, ya gotta play some metal music....Skidrow's mud kicker!!!! if yer talking mud!!! Looks pretty trippy Doc!! Mud kicker, kick, ha, here's mud in yer eyeeee!!!!!! Edited November 15, 2012 by Sixx
Art Laski Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 This is all pretty much box stock except for a few frame reinforcements, the tires, and some after market parts for the engine. I have always wanted to build a big tall Willys. Ah, I didn't recognize the suspension because the Willys I am working on is the street rod. So this must have started life as the gasser...
Brudda Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Dr. Cranky ,this is too cool! Cannot wait to see the outcome!
Austin T Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Well I will honestly say that the idea of this never crossed my mind,I don't know whats in your coffee but I think I want some! Man that is cool.
bryan_m Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 are you gonna change the front axle to a 4wd diff buddy? wheres all the eye candy??.......we are starvin here! cheers bryan
slusher Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Awsume project Doc, looking forward to your progress....
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Art and Bryan, I ended up using the gasser frame and components because I wanted to keep it as stock as humanly possible, but I am going to gizmo-engineer a way of dropping the whole frame a few scale inches so that there's a bit more tire clearance. The shocks would be very easy to scratch-build in this case in case someone is thinking of doing one of their own. I just used the stock parts because I like them. Once again, all this proves the amazing versatility of the 41 Willys. If I could, I would keep a few dozen in stock always. It's the kit I am going to be using when I turn the 62 Corvette into a gasser. Don't blame me for the madness, blame Donn Yost. It's his fault! LOL!
vintagedragfan Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 you are just full of ideas Doc, this will be different!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Trying to have some fun, Bill, with this ever-growing Styrene Addiction (or Affliction!)
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 LOL! You are giving me a taste of my own medicine, eh? LOL!
bryan_m Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 yea i am........now wheres all the eye candy?? LOL bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Okay, here's some . . . I've been using my iPhone camera out of laziness . . . I'm very excited because I was able to lift the boddy for tire clearance without having to raise the engine . . . which is very cool, I think.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 This frame really give this build it's attitude as well as it's stability . . . I tell you I am IN LOVE with this kit. Revell hit a GRANDSLAM with this one for sure.
