hooknladderno1 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Victor, Great job! Do you happen to have the measurements of the bed slices that you cut and assembled to make the long bed? Also, any measurements of the crewcab door length from front to back? I had attempted a crew cab a while back, but it looked too long: Any help would be appreciated. BTW, my wife is from Hillsdale!

BTW, my wife is from Hillsdale! Thanks .... When I get home ill check , I wrote the measurements on random card board when I was doing this , ill check tonight and pm you .. If you have the extended cab , you dont need to much to extend , tricky part is cutting it as even as possible , if not leave room so when you clean the cuts evenly you dont take of too much plastic ...

BTW, my wife is from Hillsdale! ..ok .... For cab , I extended it 1 cm .... I cut the extended window door right in in the middle , once I separated the two pieces , I cut just over 1 cm off extra cab to keep same shape , tricky part is like I said before is cutting it even as possible to have less sanding to do and a even cab all around ... Make sure everything is measured equally before glueing cab pieces together... With your cab now , I would section out the middle of your rear doors but separate or cut all the way around as if your splitting cab in half , your rear door windows should be 3 cm wide , measure from left to right , but has to be the middle of the window to measure , or you can measure the 3rd door lines , your new door width from left to right should be 3.6 cm

BTW, my wife is from Hillsdale! ... The long bed ....... I cut up an old bed , the two pieces added after cleaned up are 0.8 cm for rear piece , and 2 cm for front piece..... From front of bed , I measured up to 1.5 cm , thats were I separated bed in front to add the 2 cm extra piece , and for rear , I started at the tip of the end of bed measured 1.3 cm in , and separated bed there to add 0.8 cm extra piece ..... Now , this is very tricky to make even ... You have the inner bed , and the outter skin of the bed ... Both have to be as even as possible so when you line up the body you can glue it together to have the best bond , strength , and least body work... Took me a few hours of sanding and filing to get as even as possible .. So ADD A LITTLE BIT MORE TO THESE NUMBERS TO LEAVE ROOM FOR ERROR WHEN SANDING ....... Do not cut wheel well areas Message me if anything , hope this helps you .
Mooneyzs Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 This is a totally cool build and I am digging it. Nice work!
Dirty Gringo Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 When I first saw this I thought meh and then as scrolled through thought WOW this is very cool. Looking forward to more progress thanks for sharing
hooknladderno1 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Victor, Thanks so much for the measurements and "how to"! One way that I use to keep cuts straight and true is the old Dymo label tape. Place it down where you have drawn your vertical lines, and the strong adhesive keeps it in place while you scribe or saw your cut lines. On curved surfaces like the bed sides of this truck, I would probably use a few layers of the Dymo tape to build up an edge that the saw blade can't "jump"...
JasonFL Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 That thing is just sick! I mean really sick! I love that long slammed look. The dully fenders made a hell of a difference, great idea. Some real nice work getting everything to flow together. I'm also loving that old school dragger slammed down on those resin wheel. You need to start a build thread on that thing soon, real soon. I'm definitely watching this one, keep up the good work.
JasonFL Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Btw, any photos of the frame build up? Curious to see if you were going with a stock floor bd or just a traditional bd.
backyardinc Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 ^ thanks all !! ... For frame , I only have one pick , I need to finish all bodywork , and interior tub so I can start frame ... Im keeping the bed the way you see it , you will see frame bend up to clear suspension and wells open to see tires ... Running into trouble for header clearance and engine fitment ... Cant really find photos online of body dropped duallys with big engines so I can get a better idea on design front frame ... Google sucks ... I get lots of mini trucks but not the same...

Sounds sweet, can't wait to see build up photos. I'm surprised you weren't able to find any photos of motor compartments. I found a couple but I wasn't sure what exactly you were looking for. If you can't find any on google here's a couple links, maybe they'll help. I'm on this site a lot. Go to the link and go down a little bit. You'll see a search box, go there and pick the vehicle your looking for, you can pick a few at a time then just check out all the profiles that come up. http://www.streetsource.com/OwnerProfiles/ If that don't work check out these sites with good show coverage http://socalcustoms.com/ http://dropjawmag.com/ http://sportruck.com/ http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/forum.php Your bound to find something, good luck. Hope that helps.
cahilj Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Very clean work. What kind of putty are you using?

kilrathy10 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Very nice work, indeed....I do like the way you've tackled this one...Very nice...
Platerpants Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 nice looking truck but why does everyone insist on low profile tires for those wheels lift the dang truck and put the proper tires on it. just my opinion i hafta see this thing when its done.

Haha that's pretty funny, I'm always thinking the opposite. Why doesn't everyone slam their trucks and put a nice set of rims on there with low profile tires. Everything looks better on the ground..haha. To each their own I guess.
