Lunajammer Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 What is this Corvette engine and what kit does it come from? I bought it at a show and am considering using it but I don't know if I have all the parts or how to detail it better. If I know more I can hit up Drastic Plastic for instructions and look up references. Thanks.
Longbox55 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) LT-5 from the '90-'95 Corvette ZR-1. The one you have is from an AMT kit, which was as I recall was a '90, unless it's from the "recall" "'89" version of that kit. Edited December 7, 2012 by Longbox55
wisdonm Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) That engine and trans are also in the '39 Wagon Rod kit, but it has different exhaust manifolds. That 4-cam, 32-valve "Chevy" engine was designed by Lotus and manufactured by Outboard Marine. Edited December 7, 2012 by wisdonm
tjones87 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The good ole "Chevy" LT-5...they had to get lotus to design them, because the Turbo V6 Grand Nationals were out running the Corvettes LMAO....I also have an LT5 I plan on stuffing in a 70s Muscle car
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 ....and it's backed up by a 6-speed manual ZF gearbox.......
wisdonm Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The instructions say the trans is a Borg-Warner manual 5-speed.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 (edited) The instructions say the trans is a Borg-Warner manual 5-speed. Gee, I wonder why it has ZF cast into the side of it (the last model pic....) ZF: Borg Warner: Edited December 7, 2012 by Ace-Garageguy
wisdonm Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Would AMT/ERTL lie to us? It sure does look like the ZF.

Probably Sally from accounting was tasked with identifying the gearbox or proof-reading the instructions, and she was pre-occupied planning with all her BFFs to attend an upcoming shoe-sale.

LOL Well that's what I hear anyway. What I have to say next I pretty much only say when I'm drunk, but.... I love you guys. Seriously, you've all been a big help. Thanks.
