gbdolfans Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Hi guys, my wife gave me one of the '68 Hemi Darts for X-mas.I would love to do Butch Leal's 1968 Dart.I just found the decals and I thought it was red and white. It said it was orange and white and suggested GO Mango for the color. I would like to know from the experts out there, what rattle can would be correct or closest to the right color??? Thanks in advance, George Bluhm
High octane Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I know a person who is building the '65 P;ymouth California Flash in 1:1 scale and the colors are RED and white and not orange.
gtx6970 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Butch Leal had a 1968 Dart ? If so thats a new one to me .
caine440 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) I was wondering the same thing. Looks like he did. http://www.butchleal.com/home.html Part 3 in the history section at the bottom. Edited December 27, 2012 by caine440
RAT-T Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 JUST SAW THE GOFER DECALS FOR THAT AT SOUTHERN MOTORSTORTS
jjsipes Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) A few years ago at the Carlisle Chrysler Show they had a Butch Leal Dart there but it was a candy red and silver down the side. Looked great but not sure if it was original or not. At the same time they had the 65 stock wheelbase car as well which was the more familiar orange and white. Here's a link off the butchleal.com http://www.butchleal.com/DartPrint.html Edited December 27, 2012 by jjsipes
gtx6970 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 WOW, this is the 1st I've ever heard of a Butch Leal SS Hemi Dart . Did some digging this afternoon and sure enough it existed . But sounds like the car was more of a PR stunt than a real effort to go SS A/A racing . As it sounds like it only lasted a couple races on the west coast. I read about it on classracer.com Just goes to show ya, never say never.
caine440 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 That is why I love that time period in drag racing. You never know what you will find.
Alan Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 IIRC those Gofer Leal decals have some errors in the colors .... I saw the lettering to be red when it should be gold met/or leaf .... correct me if I am wrong.....
RAT-T Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 THIS ISWHERE I SAW THOSE DECALS. http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-RSetzer/StoreFront.bok HE ALSO SELLS ON EBAY AS "RACEMINDED"
gbdolfans Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Thanks for all the replies.I understand he didn't race this car very much,I just like the way it looks.. I still do not know what color to use.The Model Roundup site says Go Mango and some people say Red. Anyone have any color pics to see? Again, thanks for replies. George
Alan Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Here is a pic, now, this looks to be a restored car an many times they are not done as they originally were. Edited December 28, 2012 by Alan
