JFortner5
This is my first build in over 10 years. I jut thought I'd share some pictures and also use this thread to keep track of my progress. Also I will apologize in advance, I'm not going into a whole lot of detail with this one since I'm just getting my feet wet again. And finally here is my workspace. Just a corner of my work bench out in the garage. It gets the job done for now. Thanks for looking, I'll post more as I get further along. JFortner5
Thanks! One of my favorite kits ever was a 1998 Earnhardt car, may have been my best build when I was younger. It got crushed in a move, I'd like to do another one again.
Scuderia
No need to apologize that's a great start. Nice and clean, careful stuff. Keep it up!
JFortner5
A little more done tonight, had a few issues with the passenger side cage not fitting well. Should have a little more done tomorrow. I did get the nose glued to the body as seen in the background. I still need to get some filler so I can do a little body work and get some primer on it. hpiguy
Looks good. I have this combo kit and will build it one day. Love classic NASCAR stuff.
JFortner5
Thanks I'm having a good time with it. I like building race cars a lot. I may take a break after this one and do a muscle car before I tackle the Pontiac. (Too much Barret-Jackson this week is making me want to do a mustang or chevelle) Edited January 21, 2013 by JFortner5
JFortner5
Here's a little more. Hoping to have the body in primer in the next day or two. Let me know if you get sick of me posting pictures.

JFortner5
Hey I do need some advice, what do you guys do with the inside of the body? I was thinking either yellow or just primer grey. I'm having a hard time finding any pictures of the 1:1. Also while I'm at it, I'm a little worried about the decals. I've done them before, but I have no idea how old this kit is. It was a gift from a friend. I believe he picked it up on eBay. Do they deteriorate over time or should it be okay? Thanks for the help and kind words, Joey
hpiguy
I'd scan the decals intoa color scanner first, just to make sure if they do go bad, you can reprint them on new decal paper. I'd also give the decal sheet a couple coats of Testors Decal Bonder from the spray can to see if it can hold them together. http://www.mfpilot.com/images/TestorsDecalBonder.jpg

JFortner5
Cool thanks. I ended up priming the body last night, mostly to use as a guide coat. I have a little more work to do with the filler until I get it right.

Here is a pic of the actual car, and as you can see, the inside of the body was blue: Here are a few more detail shots of this car:
JFortner5
Those are great I wish I could have found that. I can already see some things that should have been done different but its a little too late for that now. Thanks, Joey Edited January 23, 2013 by JFortner5
vaughn
You are getting there. Its all a continuos learning process in my opinion. Making mistakes and overlooking things are part of making the next one even better.

JFortner5
Sorry I haven't given any updates lately, had a really busy week at work. Anyway I managed to get a couple coats of yellow on the body. Still have a little way to go on the chassis but I did a little mock up. The wheels will be black eventually. JFortner5
Oh I forgot to mention, I'm using testors enamel in the spray can. I put it in a cup of warm water before using and shook it really well. It seems like maybe it was too thin. It wouldn't cover sharp edges, the primer is showing through. I am planning on adding a coat or two tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm not sure how long I should wait.
