ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) Hi guys! Since I finished Oldsmobile and I don't have styrene to return my V8 Corolla project I decided to start new project. This Chevy came to me without engine and wheels & tires. I used bumbers to my '62 Impala Custom so it was kind a parts car until I started to build it last weekend. I Started this project like all my projects to build engine. It is 409 (of course ) from my parts box. I put Hillborn fuel injection to it because I think that 409 with that fuel injection looks very cool. Wheels will be steelies and tires will be 9 inch slicks on back and some kind of normal street tires on front. I have already sanded rear tires because they were too shine and didn't looked very realistic. Wheels... ...and rear tires. Right before and left after sanding. Body is also painted. I looks already good but when it's dry I will polish it. And one pic of chassis. Interior color will be red and I hope that i tomorrow I have one or two pics to show so stay tuned. 1fine89 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Cool 409! Hurry up and build more, you have my interest!!
Alan Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Matti, Looks good so far. Some tips, the stock fuel pump is not going work on the FI set up. Remove the stock pump, scratch a block off plate, then I would scatch a FI pump and use another drive belt and pullys to drive it, then add the plumbing ......
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) Thanks Guys! Alan: Thanks for that information of fuel pump. I found very good pics of that kind of fuel pump. Here's the link: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1010_what_you_need_to_know_about_mechanical_fuel_injection/photo_01.html Now I have to figure out how to made that kind of pump. And the update what I promised. I removed that original fuel pump and made cover to it. I also painted interior parts and flocked interior floor. Before: After: Interior parts. And flocked interior floor: Next I have to start made that fuel pump so stay tuned. Edited February 6, 2013 by ChevyCoupe41
W-409 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I Started this project like all my projects to build engine. It is 409 (of course ) from my parts box. I put Hillborn fuel injection to it because I think that 409 with that fuel injection looks very cool. Nice to see 409 Engines! Especially with the Hilborn Fuel Injection. The engine looks excellent to me, oh and did I say that yes, it is the only "Correct" engine for '62 Chevy. Nice job with the body and interior, too. I really like the color, nice paint job too. I bet that will look excellent once polished. Keep it coming. Now I know what I'll do tomorrow. I will start one 409 with Hilborns too, to go with the Blown 409 and the one with Tunnel Ram I have on the bench.
Alan Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Matti, Glad to help out and to see you found some great ref. material ...... I am going follow this, I like what you are doing here ... Alan
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) Small update. Two evening project is finished and the fuel pump is ready to paint. It turned out pretty good I think. Tomorrow I try to paint headers ,fuel pump and starter motor. Also have on my mind to start to put some BMF to the door panels so stay tuned. Edited February 8, 2013 by ChevyCoupe41
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Update. Finally managed to put some BMF to door panels and i'm pretty happy to the result. Still need to put some BMF to steering wheel and to front and rear seats. After that I can start assembly interior. Body is polished and engine room is painted. Chassis needs exhaust and and wheels and tires. Then it's finished also. Shiny.
Rod Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I'm liking this one a lot. Keep up the great work!
Albie D Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Great build Matti! Awesome smooth paint, foiled and flocked interior, and an injected W motor. Talk about a street beast...
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 Thanks guys for those kind comments! No updates but next I must have to finish that engine and interior. Then I need to buy more BMF for body.
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 BIG UPDATE! Engine is Finished and its look like this. Fuelpump belt is Btw made from masking tape. Chassis is also almost finished. Still need to put shock and driveshaft to it and then its finished. Interior is finished adn steering wheel is from '62 Impala and shifter is from my parts box. Other parts are kits original parts. And as you can see body is foiled and windshield and rear window is on it. It sits on four wheels now. That front bumper what shows on pic will not be in finished product because I have brand new bumpers to it. Next some detailing and still need to found some parts to it like tail lights, battery master cylinder etc. So it looks almost finished but still lots work to do. I hope that I manage to get it finished in the weekend so stay tuned.
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Last update to this one. Today I got bumpers to this one and I think that it looks much better with those bumpers than those painted ones. Still need to put last details to engine room, tail lights, few decals etc. But I think that I can finish this one tomorrow. Here's couple pics. And one pic with my Chrysler 300. Hope that I can finish it also in this weekend.
Gluhead Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Pretty cool. What's the blue? Looks real good on the car.
W-409 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 This is looking excellent! The Chromed Bumbers look really good on this one, and the stance is perfect, too. Those Hilborns sticking out of the hood give really nice finishing touch. Can't wait to see it in Tampere.
ChevyCoupe41 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Thanks Niko and Gluhead! Gluhead: Paint manufacturer is Maston but I dont remember color code of it. And this one is finished now. It was very fun to build and I like the result a lot. Hope you like it too. Here is one teaser and later I put more pics to Under glass section. Edit: here is finished pics http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71234 Thanks to all who followed and commented this project! Edited February 24, 2013 by ChevyCoupe41
