Monty Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I've got some resin wheels headed my way, so I thought this might be a good time to try out the bottle of SpazStix I've had sitting around here. I've never tried it or Alclad because I've heard they require large amounts of patience and luck, two commodities in short supply around here lately. I still don't own any Alclad, but I did get some SpazStix for a fairly good price when a lhs was going out of business. I'd like your best tips on applying this stuff, including what "base" is best. Does it require an enamel like Alclad? Is black the best color to shoot over? What pressure do you set your compresor at? If you can think of anything else that will help make this task successful, please post it up.
High octane Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I've used Spaz-Stix from a spray can on a few parts as well as resin and I'm happy with it, My current build has some parts sprayed in Spaz-Stix as well. I use it over Krylon Short Shots(?) Black that I bought at Hobby Lobby.
curt raitz Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I use both Spazstex (aerosol) and Alclad (aerosol as well)...actually prefer Spazstex over Alclad I've tried airbrushing them both...but just cannot get them to work as well as the aerosols the trick is to put on very, very thin coats...don't bury the parts in paint, ya can never get it on too light have fun
VW Dave Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) I've only used the SpasStix spray, but I've had good results so far; Tamiys TS-14 gloss black is a good base, and very light 'misty' coats of the chrome are key to good results. The headers on my roadster's flatty were done in SpazStix after mold line cleanup: Edited March 22, 2013 by VW Dave

Any recommendations on a base?
