White paint

Ok this is something that has always been a pain to me...It maybe the paint and clear or Im doing something totally wrong...But almost everytime I clear a body I painted white,it turns into like a yellow/brownish color...

Does anyone have any tips on spraying white with out having this turn on me?Any help will be appreciated

More than likely it's your clear Shane. I've painted a couple of models white and in both instances, I used Tamiya Pure White with their TS-13 clear. They both came out great! No hint of yellowing after a couple of years so far. Sad part is that's practically impossible to get TS-13 anymore. I've read that Testors one coat clear is practically the same thing. I can't confirm that though.

I mainly use Duplicolor stuff...Never had any luck out of testor or tamiya sprays

I use Dupli Color occasionally. So, I can understand your confusion. It's nice paint. I haven't used the clear though. Only advise I can offer is either brush a coat of future over the white before you clear it or try misting a couple of coats of clear, allow it to dry, sand and then hit it with some wet coats. It kinda sounds like the clear is making the white wet again and drawing out the tint.

I have had the same problem with yellowing clear coat, and won't use it anymore on white. I now airbrush a coat of Future over white, and it has worked phenomenally. Best of all, Future is cheap. Who doesn't like cheap?

Clear enamel is the culprit, and I no longer use it

If you shoot the body with Testors white enamel and polish it out , you will not need a clear coat !

Also, if you use Tamiya Gloss White, there will be no need for clear, it has enough inherent gloss in it. I have used it several times and never had to clear it!

You should still be able to polish the white. The only reason I cleared mine was to attempt to avoid polishing them. Still had to polish one of them though. IME, it's better to brush future on than to spray it on. Never had great success with either process.

This car was painted Duplicolor white and UPOL clear. Close to a year ago now and it doesn't look any different today

just a google image I found real quick.

I get mine at my local auto paint supply house. I think it runs about $20 a can and it's a single stage urethane topcoat. I've not tried to sand and polish it out but I don't think it would be a problem

I've used it on testors paints and duplicolor sprays , The only one I've had issues with was on a Polar lights 1965 Dodge . It has some very slightly crazing in it, And I'm not sure if it's in the color coat or the plastic. It happened twice on the exact same car. so my gutt tells me it's the kits materials .

ps, I tried the Duplicolor clear and didn't care much for it . It didn't give me as much of a shine as the U pol brand did . But part of me thinks it ' might ' have been the weather .

Either way , I've used this on at least a dozen builds with essentially no issues to date. 3 of them are white cars

I looked thru my files and this is the best picture I have to show shine. this is straight out of the can with no sanding or polishing of any kind. I don't really go for the super slick mile deep clear look .

You can see a nice reflection in the top of the ft fenders

I can try to get a better picture if desired .

Looks good alot better than what my white does lol....Ill have to find some and get it on the way..Thanks for the help!
