Kaleb Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Pictures first, I want to build a transmission brace out of brass. Anyone ever mated these two together?
W-Machine Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 You could use a two-part adhesive like J B Weld. That stuff could glue Jell-O to an ice cube.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Any CA will work brass-to-styrene. Not so good aluminum-to-styrene.
Kaleb Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 Sweet action. If those two fail, I know duct tape will hold lol.
my80malibu Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Any CA will work brass-to-styrene. Not so good aluminum-to-styrene. absolutely here, just scuff the brass with some sandpaper first.
Eshaver Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 absolutely here, just scuff the brass with some sandpaper first. maybe drill & put in a brass pin for reinforcement BOTH suggestions have worked in the past for me ! Thanks for the posts too, ( Joe and Gilbert ) !!!!!!!!
Harry P. Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Any CA will work brass-to-styrene. Not so good aluminum-to-styrene. ??? I use CA to glue aluminum to styrene all the time. Works well. What am I missing?
Steven Zimmerman Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'm with Harry on this one, do it all the time. May not be quite as strong, but if you scuff both parts, it works.
Guest Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Why not just make your transmission brace out of styrene and not have to worry about having a good bond? Once painted, you're not going to be able to tell what it was made out of.
Kaleb Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 I can make the brace out of one piece of brass. Well several until I get it right lol. I may try styrene before I am done.
