This is an awesome build.

I'm pretty floored so many people have sat in/driven/have relatives who own F40s. I've seen one. Once. Going the opposite way in trafic. On a very large bridge.

I noticed on the gt community build that you said you were waiting on a p/e set for this one. Where are you getting it from. I have one that says it is for 2 different Ferraris. It comes from scale something another. One is the alpha m. and the testarossa. Is this what you speak of or do you have another.

The parts I have are from a set that included the Testarossa and the F40. Another member on here (QuickGMC) graciously helped me out with the parts he did not need for his Testarossa. I got the parts for the F40. Some are a little out of scale but that is not a problem because I will trim to fit them. Just bought the 1/12 Testarossa today though, so I will be looking for a full set for it soon.

Thanks Joseph, I also did not know there were that many of these out there.

I guess I will share the reason I asked about the paint for those who do not know. On the 1:1 you can still see the texture of the carbon fiber through the skim of paint Ferrari puts on them. So the paint is shiny but certainly not smooth.

Ahh I see what you mean Fred. I have probably around 150 pictures to work from on this build. Some of the pictures do indeed show the surface texture but I do not know how I could replicate that look to scale and not have it look "strange." Thinking about it, you could probably get that look by spraying the first heavy coat with too much air pressure, letting it dry then spraying the following coats at the correct pressure. Don't know if I wanna try it though.

Yeah I don't know how one would replicate it. I was just putting it out there more for the fact of the day lol

Oh ok Fred, no problem.

OH my gosh, finally an update!

Been working on the interior because it needed a LOT of help.

Scratchbuilt: Heater vents (plastic door panel push pins), glove box door, whole underside of dash, all gauges, all buttons, real leather e-brake boot.

Added: ScaleMotorsport twill carbon fiber, PE shifter bezel......more to come.

Nice texture on the dash and seats.

Ben

Thank you Ben.

It is embossing powder that was sprinkled into wet paint, allowed to dry, dry sand with 600 grit, cleaned and painted over it with gray acrylic water base. (For the dash and interior of course :D Seats were similar without the sanding part.)

Finished the dashboard, made a custom floor mount for the accel pedal, working on the floormats right now. Dash is glued in.

Kept seats out for these to show details:

Completed photos of the interior tub. Floormats were done like the dash and F40 was handpainted by me. Shifter was scratchbuilt from a straight pin and a stainless rod.

Seats just need the harnesses.

looks great, nice job on the hand lettering!

Thank you Bill.

I wanted to do the Cavallino horse with a decal but it didn't work out so I did the F40 instead......I'm glad I did in the end.

That is really shocking. It's a shame that the Tamiya 1:24 kit has this one beat hands-down in detail. You're doing some amazing work turning this into an accurate replica!
