Eric N. Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Cool! Already being built!-Side note-A nice Alluminium is Alclad dull alluminium. Nice and flat(for the trans) Eric
SSNJim Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Just for reference's sake, here is a nice overhead view of a 5.0 engine compartment with all parts identified: http://www.cjponyparts.com/tech-fox-body-engine/a/170/ It looks stock, but I can't guarantee that it is. It's just a picture I found while browsing.
whale392 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) ^^That is an excellent diagram. Is that from MustangGT.org? (I see it was taken from CJ Pony Parts, and I wonder where they got it from. Bookmark it for reference. Edited May 27, 2013 by whale392
SSNJim Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I don't know where CJ got it from. I was looking at 05+ stuff and stumbled across it. I was pretty impressed by the photo and thought it might come in handy at some point.
whale392 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I can see that being moved to the LX Reference Pictures thread in the reference section, as i am sure others could use it as well!
Erik Smith Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Interior and engine bay painted... Still a lot of detail painting to do Other interior parts: As Bradley noted above, the dash has speakers located at each end. I am not going crazy on detail for this build, but a decal/scribing/? Would help differentiate. I think I'm just going to go with a bit darker gray.
SSNJim Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I can see that being moved to the LX Reference Pictures thread in the reference section, as i am sure others could use it as well! Good point. I created a new thread in "1:1 Car Reference Pictures" called "Fox Mustang Engine Compartment".
whale392 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 That will work, Eric. And thanks, Jim. Looks like i may have to contribute some shots to it and the LX thread!
freakshow12 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Is that a titanium color on there? My buddy had one in that color with black interior. Was a 91
Johnny1973 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 The interior is looking good there. The seats could be a little darker but over the kit looking real nice.
whale392 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Eric, is that just camera/flash/light issues or did you wash/drybrush the rear seats? If it is wash/drybrush, they look GOOD!
freakshow12 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I think the seats look ok. The grey gut in my 89 were not very dark
Erik Smith Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Eric, is that just camera/flash/light issues or did you wash/drybrush the rear seats? If it is wash/drybrush, they look GOOD! I preshaded the darker areas then sprayed Tamiya Gray over it, enough to cover, not enough to obscure the shading. The front seats are done the same way but the lightbulb is directly above them and makes them look different. I think the seats look ok. The grey gut in my 89 were not very dark The color is a little misleading in the photo due to the intense spot of light from the bulb - which is only about 4 inches away. It is meant to represent the light gray interior color and I am just using colors I have on hand - this being Tamiya XF-66 Light Gray. It looks pretty close to me...
whale392 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 If the front seats do look just like the backs, you did a great job on them!
madhorseman Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Engine is painted gray. I mixed Tamiya Light Gray XF-66 with a couple drops of black to get the color close to what I saw and added a coat of Future for semi-gloss shine. Transmission is Alclad Aluminum, Dark Aluminum with a light spray of Vallejo wash to darken the bell housing a little more. I'll give it all a little dark gray wash later. Hey Guys, shouldn't the oil pan be painted black also? Roy
dougp Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Looking good Erik, can't wait to see it in person at one of our meetings.
whale392 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Pans were painted Gray, same as the blocks and heads. They were assembled and painted as a unit. My 91 5.0l engine is all-Gray, and it has been that way for 274,000 miles.
freakshow12 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I believe that could be either way on the pans. I have personally seen both black and gray pans on stock original cars. I have 3 with black pans and one with a grey pan myself. The MCA is compiling a concours rule book on these cars and having a heck of a time as sometimes when demand overrun supply changes were made. I would say either way is correct
