exesivefire Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 pushing forward, winging it usually works out for me, so why not? Got a motor mount started, going to start looking through my stash for a different turbo, the one from the mustang is kinda blah..
exesivefire Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 You lost a gnat's azz worth of material when you cut the frame for the Z. It shortened it just enough to cause these issues. Me I'd add cut her again and space the front out a tad. Just my 2centavos. G The way I Z'd it I really didn't though, I've been trying to keep the shorter wheelbase. Looking back the suicide front might not have been the way to go for that. I'll figure it out, if not ill chop it up again, it's only plastic after all.
DrKerry Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Cut down a grille shell and put it up front, mount the radiator in the trunk area. Leave the grille shell wide open to the engine?
exesivefire Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Cut down a grille shell and put it up front, mount the radiator in the trunk area. Leave the grille shell wide open to the engine? That's kinda the route I'm thinking
exesivefire Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 so I started stalling on this one like I did when I first attempted this project, I almost pulled that chassis apart again then thought maybe I should see what the original body looked like on the new frame. I think I like it better now, I have room to set that motor back a bit now. So I will probably start a whole new chassis for that 5 window, and press forward with this one now. Hmm start a new thread, or get real confusing and build two in one?
exesivefire Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 so I modified the transmission cross-member so I could move the motor back, Also made some progress on the front suspension. At this point these are my two options; Use the 29' rat body or lengthen the wheelbase at the rear and use the 5 window body.
DrKerry Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Looking at the photo as it is here, with the A body it looks like you could squeeze a radiator and fan in there. Albeit the spring perch is going to close to the radiator but you could get something to fit in there. Find a thinner radiator core and slim down the mounting area on a fan blade it could work. You could also thin down the water pump pulley to gain a bit more room too. Especially if you're liking the coupe body. I know I do. The frame doesn't look to out of place either. It looks like it fits with the style of build. I say press on with the coupe!!!!!! Edited June 20, 2013 by DrKerry
exesivefire Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I moved the motor back, both options have the same room.. I'd have to lengthen the wheelbase body to use the coupe body. I think I might just press forward with both.
DrKerry Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Could build 'em both and just have the bodies removable and switch them at shows. Really confuse people that way!!!! LOL
exesivefire Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I figure I was about to build the chassis again anyway, so I'll just keep this one for the pickup body, and start I over on the coupe
DrKerry Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Kool, can't wait to see it!!!! 'er both of them come about!!!
exesivefire Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) Time to catch up, albeit I didn't make much progress.. I "think" I'm going with the coupe body still.. Put the quick change back in the parts bin, and started making a new rear, pulled the center from a revell 32 9 inch and added some 1/8th inch rod, I'll trim these later when I know how wide I need Took a break from the chassis and focused on the body for a bit, I cut the trunk out since I was going to have to rescribe the lines anyway, I skinned the edges in styrene while I was at it to get a square opening. Trimmed up a revell 32 deck lid to fit, don't mind the fit, I just set it in there. Here you can kinda see where I am going with this, I'll probably extend the chassis and hang some bag mounts off of there. I also had a little fun on that rear cross member. exesivefire Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 Trying to get a idea of the final direction of this thing, trying a few tire and wheels options
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Looking great. It's fun to see your wheel / tire comparos, and to watch as all of the build evolves... good stuff.
exesivefire Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks guys! Having fun with this one even though I can seem to get a clear direction. I think it boils down to to many ideas and not enough time. Sometimes I get ideas and I want to "save" them for the next project too. Although even that seems silly..
southpier Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 glad you haven't shelved it. the annealing process makes it all the more interesting.
Albie D Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Great progress. I'd have a tough time choosing wheels, they all look good..
captin Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I love the way this one is turning out keep up the great work
exesivefire Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 Great progress. I'd have a tough time choosing wheels, they all look good.. Yeah that's the boat I'm in too..
exesivefire Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Getting a little more progress done, still have no idea what wheels or tires to use, but these help with mockup for now.. got a little more done on that motor mount, and I'm currently deciding how to hang that rear axle.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 you should totally go with these wheels.... looks really good... are you goin shiny paint or rusted?
exesivefire Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 Haven't really decided yet, I was leaning towards a flat color. But I was thinking root beer and gold accents too..
