o-man Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Revell Boss 429 and Mach1 Mustangs. Boss painted VHT Grabber Green with white interior. Mach 1 painted Testors Grabber Blue with black interior. Building box stock since skills aren't good enough to modify them. Bodies and window trim painted. Engines in chassis. That Boss 9 is HUGE, lol. White and black interior. "wood" trim painted MM leather. Black interior. Painted gloss black with satin clear. Wood decals from kit.
Custom Mike Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Nice choice of colors Oscar, and a pair of great kits too, this should be a good one!
FIREMODELMAN Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 It looks to me that you have excellent skills. Those are coming along nice. I've never built 2 of the same kit at once. Seems like fun.
Jantrix Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Building box stock since skills aren't good enough to modify them. It's good that you have an understanding of what your skill level is. However, you will also learn by trying new things, so don't be totally spooked by the idea of doing mods. Just start small. A wheel/tire change, a motor change. A suspension modification. I've been preaching "Walk then Run" for a while now, and I'm glad to see you understand the concept, but don't let if keep you from expression. Your paint work looks pretty good, and you build pretty cleanly. Those are the basics and you seem to be mastering them well. Keep it going.
PappyD340 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Looking very good Oscar, I have always liked the 69 & 70 model mustangs. I agree with Rob, not than I'm an expert by any means, but don't let inexperience stop you after all it's just plastic right? we can aford to make a few mistakes on these after all that's how we learn, but I've seen some of your work and you have clean builds, so go ahead and challenge yourself. Anyway good color choices!!!
o-man Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 This may sound corny, but thank you all for compliments and confidence boosts! Yes, the 69-70 Mustangs are my dream years! Have always wanted a Grabber Blue 69 fastback/sports roof; shaker hood scoop, spoilers, and sports slats/louvers. Since I painted my on 69 kit black, this 70 will have to do. Hope to have some updates and maybe under glass later today.
freakshow12 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Good work. Just some mustang trivia stuff for you... Grabber blue was not offered until 70 and oddly the shaker was offered in 69 on the 351w, 390 and 428 cj/ scj and NOT Offered on the boss 302. The boss got it in 70
o-man Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 The wood work on the dash, decal or paint???? Full black interior is decal. White/black interior is Model Masters acrylic "leather". Hope that helps.
o-man Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Updates on both cars. Boss 429 is more or less done. Mach 1 needs some trim touch up. Camera shows a lot more mistakes than my 47 year old eyes can see. I still need to work on my painting. There are 2 or 3 coats of Future on bodies. Front and rear fascias of Boss. No battery on 429, its in trunk. After installing decals, realized I should have used white instead of black. This is done. Will post pics in under glass. Next up, Mach 1
o-man Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Updates for Mach !. Revel puts a lot of parts in this kit. Two complete interiors. Two sets of wheels and tires. Two complete engines. Two sets of decals for Mach 1 or Boss 302. Different grills and upper radiators. Lots of extra parts for your stash if you are in to this generation Mustang. Front and rear fascias. I tried to lightly use a yellow sharpie on grill lights while using orange on lights below bumper. Didn't think they should stay chrome and didn't think silver would look right. Was going to make section between tail lights a flat metallic gray. On actual car, that area doesn't appear black nor gray. Ended up painting it black. Did use the same gray on lower bodyside cladding; welcome your opinions on that. Still need to attempt touch up on front grill; still too much chrome above headlights. Two piece hood decals were not as bad as I thought to line up. Was unable to get wrinkles out of them, even using the warm paper towel method. May have to invest in decal solvent. Hood scoop got some glue on it while trying to install. Can see the chrome better on grill in this picture. As stated earlier, painted area between tail lights black. Need to fix silver strip at top. My silver paint pen must be slightly clogged. More or less done. Still need to install rear wing, misplaced uprights after I painted them. Also need to put on Mustang script decals on front fenders. Thanks for looking and following my builds. Comments are always welcomed. Will be under glass shortly.
madhorseman Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) Hey Oscar, both Mustangs are coming along really well. Just a suggestion, next time You're near Wally World, stop in and buy some cheap reader glasses. I'd be lost without my 2.5X magnification specs! Edited June 12, 2013 by madhorseman
