Dave Ambrose Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 These guys were two of my heroes. Better, I think, to celebrate a life well lived.
Guest Johnny Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Thanks for posting Greg, I didn't know Art had passed. Met and talked to Art many times at pulling events back years ago. I remember reading about the brothers running at Bonneville as well as listening to Art recall some of the runs they had made.
zenrat Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Man that's a shame. Those were the days. When you could build something in your shed from bits & pieces and then go out and capture the world land speed record. Those guys had balls.
Pete J. Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) I was in my teens during the Winged foot express, Green Monster, Spirit of America, battles for the LSR and remember it well. It was a very exciting time for the sport. Both brothers figured prominently in that piece of history. What is truly amazing to me is that both Art and Walt lived into their 90's after living on such a thin edge for so long in their 30's. RIP Edited July 13, 2013 by Pete J.
