Interesting indeed! I remember seeing a film at least similar to this, in a 7th grade science class, circa 1956-57. The lever is one of the so-called "simple machines", and the worm of the worm gear setup? Another simple machine, the "inclined plane".

Hmm, guess I stayed awake in class that day?
