On a future build I may give MCW(Model Car World) lacquer paint a try. I'd be applying decals on the MCW paint too.

I'd like to apply a final clear coat over the whole body to seal the decals after they are applied on the model.

What's a good (lacquer)clear coat to use over both decals and MCW lacquer paint?

Does the MCW paint have to be polished before I apply the decals or is it smooth enough?

Lacquer over decals will work but with many light mist coats to start off...otherwise the decals will peel off. Testors, tamiya, duplicolor will all work.

A friend had an experience with Testors lacquer clear turning yellow on a model. BTW, it wasn't over decals but the clear did yellow a bit.

Is this common with Testors? Maybe he had a bad can.

Note that Mr. Colors UV clear states on the can not to use over decals. One of the few things in English on the can.

If you use Micro-set when you apply your decals, be sure to wait at least a couple of days for any residue to fully evaporate before clearcoating over them- the acid in Micro-set can react with your clearcoat causing the decals to bubble up or get pinholes.

See below. I mist it over decals and never have had a problem yet.
