jjsipes Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Since you can no longer find the Tamiya Clear Spray cans, I decided to purchase a couple of bottles of Tamiya X-22 Clear to try and airbrush it. Has anybody used this before? Looks thin enough to spray without thinning but does it need thinning? I have never tried airbrushing Tamiya paints before so help suggestion or comments are welcomed. Thanks in advance.
sportandmiah Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Depends. X22 can be acrylic or enamel depending what country you live in.
jjsipes Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 What I bought was here in the U.S. and it says to clean up with water so I assume its acrylic.
cruz Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 This is acrylic and yes, it works great. Make sure that it's completely dry if you are planning to polish it. It polishes great also. Just ask Bill Geary, it's the clear of choice for him!!
Chillyb1 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 This was my first time using X-22 as a final clear on a body: It went on really beautifully and is super glossy. I recall thinking that it was just about perfect in ease of application and in the final result. I did have a couple of spots where it ran because I sprayed too much, but overall it came out great.
Lunajammer Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Looks thin enough to spray without thinning but does it need thinning? So what's the word on this question?
Chillyb1 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 So what's the word on this question? My answer is, Yes, it needs to be thinned. I'm pretty sure I used Tamiya's thinner on the body pictured above. Probably about a 50:50 mix, but I can't be certain of that.
