mk11 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 There's no denying this Ford die cast has a certain coolness too it, though. (Cheesy graphics excluded, of course). Despite it's faults, it's too bad they're not more available; having the rough pattern would save you some development time... mike
Repstock Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Here's my progress so far on the master...
disabled modeler Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 If I were to do one, I would use a MPC 1/20 scale as a guide, shrink it to 1/25 scale, and work from there. Yeah!!!!...1/25th scale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eshaver Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Tom, just remember these vans had exposed hinges all the way around . Cloth straps were used as Door Checks . I see you're using a 1972 up grille . The only other thing I need to mention is the side markers , tail lights and rear reflectors which by the way were "Flush mounted ". Look, I'm not trying to be some kind of Econoline expert here . I worked on them, owned them, partied in them , etc. etc, etc .................

Still a work in progress, but I will take note of everything you've said.
crowe-t Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) WOW, Tom, This is incredible! You are nailing it. BTW, will you be making interior parts for this(seats, engine cover, dash, steering wheel and column...)? Edited August 26, 2013 by crowe-t
b_lever1 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Will you be getting this cast to offer up to others because I would love ome million of them LOL okay a few
Ben Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 It's crazy to see your work being just as good as any muliti million dollar model company could produce if not better!!!!! Looking really great so far, Tom!!!
Eshaver Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Tom, if you want , e-mail me off the forum and I'll dig out all the Ford Parts books , option sheets , colors , and photos of accessories I used to manufacture for "Snoot Ford vans ". I might have to get some very old negatives re printed as I'm going back to 1973. Over the years , I managed to buy a lot of "Rare " accessories for Ford Econolines and just store them . I'm still trying to buy a Sport Steering wheel for the 76-79 Ford Econolines .
mikemodeler Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Another incredible piece of work Tom, very impressive scratchbuilding! Interested to see this one done and possibly for sale!
Repstock Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Here's what I'm giving to the caster.
b_lever1 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Let me know when if possible if this is for sale
Eshaver Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Tom, PLEASE , an this is coming from someone who owned and worked on too many "Bull nose " Ford vans too. The tail lights need adjustment . they're too fat . if need be . Hell, I'll send you a 73 Ford tail lamp lens in the mail. better, I'll send it CERTIFIED MAIL AN INSURED .
Rob Hall Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Looking good...I'm definitely interested in one. The taillights of that generation of van look very similar to the F-series pickups of the same era.
Eshaver Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 (edited) Tom, I'm posting two pictures of the 69-74 Ford Econoline van tail lights cause you of all people seem to want to do things RIGHT the first time . I'm also going to include the six cylinder motor box details At this point, I hope to rest my case .......................... Edited September 29, 2013 by Eshaver
mikemodeler Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Outstanding work as usual Tom! Looking forward to this being available someday soon!
