Terry Sumner Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Here... http://www.revell.com/contest/revellgearz-winners-2013.html
Tom Geiger Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Interesting! Nobody we know... which is a good thing. I hope the sold a lot of kits and got more people involved in the hobby. The contest was for Revell's other 99% of customers, not us ringers!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 We know Matthew Gedert and his truck is very cool.
Hawk312 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Interesting! Nobody we know... Hey guys,,,you know me! I didn`t win, but I did manage to squeak out a runner up in the truck unlimited advanced class. Congrats to anyone else who entered.
AzTom Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 David, YOU are the winner. Awesome build! I may be missing something but the winner is NOT the best build, not even close.
Erik Smith Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 The unlimited "car" is a spaceship of some sort? Marginal build quality, too. Lost a little respect for the contest...
Erik Smith Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 David, YOU are the winner. Awesome build! I may be missing something but the winner is NOT the best build, not even close. This was the runner up? That is a sweet truck. The winner was decent, but brushed on rust?...eh, not. Not sure what was going on there...
ScaleDale Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 David: This proves my theory that weathering is being given too much weight in some contests. Your build shows way more skill and attention to detail than the winner. Disclaimer: No Offense ment to the Good Doctor... Dale
southpier Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 no '32 roadsters in the mix? that must have hurt.
Austin T Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Congrats to the winners. I find it a tad bit agitating that they didn't put up the runners up pictures last year but did this year. I still have Mixed emotions about the way the contest is done when I look at how it was this year and in the past.
Tom Geiger Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 This proves my theory that weathering is being given too much weight in some contests. It used to be the exact opposite way. Back when I did my '59 Chevy convertible, it was before weathering and junkers came into vogue. I built it to compete in 'factory stock' and made sure every piece left on it was a factory part. There's even a factory hub cap in the trunk. At show after show, the judges would move it to "Misc" class to compete against tanks and motorcycles. In it's first year of contests it hadn't won a single award. I'd stand back and hear guys criticize it as 'ruining a kit'. About 10 years later, I was going to a show with a friend and mentioned that I had nothing new to enter. He remembered this Chevy and said I should bring it out since nobody would remember it. Well, it won two awards at that show, Second in Factory Stock and Best Interior (which is cool since it has no interior!). Next showing it got Best Chevy. And I then won Best Factory Stock at a People's Choice voting show. I guess it came into style. So yea, I am happy that judges like rust!
doctor phillips Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) The David Eicherly truck is GREAT!! It certainly is a winner in my book.... Edited August 16, 2013 by doctor phillips
Hawk312 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks for the kind words everyone. Seems as though my build is the complete antithesis of what they were looking for. Next time, I will sand it down with 200 grit before taking pictures I guess.
Albie D Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 David, YOU are the winner. Awesome build! I may be missing something but the winner is NOT the best build, not even close. I mean the field truck is nice, but this is spectacular!!
Kennyboy Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I could not see how David's truck did not win it either. My ZR1 did not even get an honorable mention........by far the cleanest chassis I have produced. I was just miffed when I saw that Viperish flying thing that placed. Who judged this?
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 The David Eicherly truck is GREAT!! It certainly is a winner in my book.... Yup...
