tjones87 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I am trying to replicate a 1:1 of this truck that is down the road from me....any idea if this kit is still out there someplace? This is the only thing I can find about the kit....I am sure it will be impossible to find one, but thought I'd see if the people on here might have some info...thanks
Longbox55 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 That kit isn't in the current linup, but it was reissued a while back. Should be relatively easy to find. I don't recall who made it, but there is a resin cab available for it that eliminates the multi peice unit from the kit. I beleive the conversion may also include glass, which the kit does not have. BTW, this kit is 1/48 scale, so it not very big.
tjones87 Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 ok cool i will do some more searching....I'm not too worried about the scale...just want to build it the way I would build the real thing
o-man Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I've seen a couple pop up on ebay every now and again.
Tom Geiger Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 There is a better alternative to the small antique Revell kit. Check out the Ertl issue 1957 Chevy stakebed in 1/24 scale. I have one, and I see them on the 'bay all the time in the diecast categories....
tjones87 Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) I have found 2 of the smaller kits on ebay...will get on and look for the diecast...would rather have the bigger scale version...all I'd have to do is strip and repaint and modify the bed sides a bit...thanks for the info The diecast would also be better, because the truck down the road from me is a 57 i believe, so would have the right hood on it.... I wonder how hard it would be to tear down? Edited August 16, 2013 by tjones87
Modelbuilder Mark Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 This is a very simplistic kit, I built it out of the box when it was re-issued under the Select Subjects Program around 2003. (these are bad old pics I have sorry) The kit has no glass, is approx 1:43 and I have been told was originally made by someone other than Revell.I just did a quick search at the bay, not there.
Longbox55 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The Ertl diecast is pretty nice peice, have a few of them myself, including one I'm converting in to a tow truck using a Maisto '53 Chevy tow truck bed. Only real issue I have with them is that the fender badge is wrong. It's badged as a 6400 (154" wheelbase), when it is actually a 6100 (130" wheelbase).
tjones87 Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) the diecast is the 130" wheelbase instead of the 145"? Shouldn't be too hard to fix should it? Edited August 17, 2013 by tjones87
Longbox55 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 May have to get creative, the frame is diecast same as the body, unlike most diecasts that use a plastic frame. Might have to reinforce it, or perhaps simply use the frame as a pattern to build the proper length from brass or styrene.
hooknladderno1 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 the diecast is the 130" wheelbase instead of the 145"? Shouldn't be too hard to fix should it? Although I have never tried it, I know a lot of the guys who do diecast kitbashes and conversions use "JB Weld" with no problems. HTH. David
tjones87 Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I was thinking about using JB Weld...just got to get me one of these diecast trucks and see how it comes apart
