Bending wire for the step/handrail should not be too terribly hard with a little jig. So I arrogantly say never having done this style myself....LOL I did the dash by painting the whole thing black, then painting the "wood" areas brown. I drybrushed some black on the wood grain to get a better wood look, then I used a silver sharpie to highlight each gauge. It took a while, but I'm pretty happy with it.
