Mack_Mechanic Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Meh....There is a difference between being "street legal" and being "streetable".If you have to drive the thing with the hood off to keep it cool,to me that's not a street car.Larry Larson's Nova to me is a stupid fast street car.I have seen Larry DRIVE his Nova to KCIR,stomp everyone elses "street cars",collect his trophy and then drive home.
High octane Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I would consider "streetable" if I can drive it from Chicago to LA.
1930fordpickup Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Awesome car. It is a huge deal what he did . To bad its mostly plastic.
Prostreet Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Awesome car. It is a huge deal what he did . To bad its mostly plastic. This Larry Larson's car is all steel.
MachinistMark Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Its a street car. Did the same raid trip Larsen's nova did. Broke less stuff than Larsen, and ran a heckuva lot quicker than Larsen. The king is dead.... Also Larsen's car might have steel doors over thecamaro but tthat's it...still has glass fenders hood and trunk.
Erik Smith Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Is it legal to drive without windshield wipers? Fast car. Sounds pretty cool too.
LokisTyro Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Rain-X usually works fairly well especially if your glass or lexan is polished up.
1930fordpickup Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Is it legal to drive without windshield wipers? Fast car. Sounds pretty cool too. No, it is not legal without wipers . This is a 69 and they came with them per the gov rules . Mark, Mr. Larson was a no show this year. Thanks for the info on his plastic parts , I had no idea about the fenders.

Carbon fiber floorboard and firewall and a 'glass hood, thats it.....everything else is steel and the car weighs 3500 lbs. and he dosen't have to drive with the hood off to keep from overheating
chevyfever2009 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 The car is still wicked fast and cool

Spell check please.I usually try not to get caught up in threads like this but If you want to get technical it wasn't the same route or area, Your not even sure what larry's car has for body work. Larry's car is more street car ( i use the term loosely) then Tom's, i have been on drag week with a buddy and have seen the car. Your 1:1 comments on this forum make me lol. You need to stick with that vortech 350 i have nothing further to add to this thread, enjoy. Carbon fiber floorboard and firewall and a 'glass hood, thats it.....everything else is steel and the car weighs 3500 lbs. and he dosen't have to drive with the hood off to keep from overheating Thank you.
zenrat Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Just a tip for you. When picking up other people on their spelling it pays to proofread your post. It can save embarrassment. Don't ask me how I know...
jbwelda Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 in California at least a car must have windshield wipers. that doesn't mean they have to be mounted, they can be in the trunk unless it is raining then they must be in place. same with headlamps. the VC says you have to have them but doesn't say they have to be mounted unless it is dark out.
Pete J. Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Just a little nit to pick with the title of this thread(Other than spelling). "Fastest" vs. "Quickest" I doubt that this is the fastest street legal car in the US. Quickest accelerating yes but fastest would have to mean top end and at 217mph it is dramatically slower than the 267mph Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. I suspect that the plastic body work would start leaving the Camaro at that speed.

If you watch the clip that what hot rod named it and how many people own a Bugatti give me American muscle over imported junk anyday
Casey Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Pete's point is dead on-- there's a distinct difference between speed (fastest) and elapsed time (quickest). What this Camaro can do is impressive, no doubt, and it launches hard and straight in the few minutes of video I watched, but no single vehicle does everything "best", and that's a good thing.
comp1839 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 actually pete is dead wrong. it's hot rod's contest. it's hot rod's title to give out. it's hot rod's rules. it's run on the tracks of their choice. take your veyron to to any of the tracks where they are contesting for this title and see how you fair out. and that 267 you're so proud of, the unbridaled brethern of these cars are going 260 plus in the quarter mile. so as far as the plastic body leaving the camaro..........not going to happen.
Pete J. Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I suppose it is all relative. If you want to call it the fasted street legal drag car in America that's fine. As you said your rules, your track. My track, Laguna Seca. Rules, run what you brung. No trailering to the track. 10 laps. Ready set go!

As you said your rules, your track. My track, Laguna Seca. Rules, run what you brung. No trailering to the track. 10 laps. Ready set go! Ok but you have to remember is it doesn't matter what you bring what track your at its man and machine vs man & machine. For example I could have the best race car money can buy if I can't drive and able to handle the power of car then I can get smoked by average joes homebuilt racecar. Ive seen some homebuilt street cars that are scary fast.
Pete J. Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Racing is always a combination of factors. That is why it is so much fun to do or watch. Driver is only one factor(granted an important one). The machine, the crew, the weather, the track, the other drivers and of course a little luck doesn't hurt. At the highest levels in all forms of the sport putting together a winning team and vehicle is the highest challenge. Doing it well, consistently is what separates the champions from the also rans. Anyone can win once. But the John Forces, Roger Penskes, Adrian Neweys. Now that is something special.
comp1839 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 it's not my track. they're not my rules, pete. they're hot rod's. there will always be someone "wanna be" crying about the rules. if you wanna play in their arena. you play by their rules, pete. you certainly can go start your own race. with your own rules. any where you like.........let me know how you make out with that.
comp1839 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 sorry, i didn't see the last post you made pete. i now see why you are completely confused here. this is not a race. it isn't about team support ( did you know that outside support is forbidden by the rules?). this is all about the car. all of the guys you mentioned couldn't have won jack with out there large team behind them. larson won the title 4 or 5 times. no outside help. no support vehicle , no trailer. you should really check out how difficult this event is before you start making completely irrelavent statements. i don't mean that to be a smart "a". i would never jump into a conversation about any kind of contest of which i have no knowledge of the rules. you'll only end up bringing a dragster to a road race.
1930fordpickup Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Pete these cars do have to drive to the different tracks everyday. It is five tracks that Hot Rod picks out each year. The car can tow a trailer but that is as far as that gets. They can not have a support team following them with parts and tools.
JunkPile Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Seems as if no matter how fast it is someone will come up with something faster
