twopaws Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 In your opinion, on a kit with opening doors or trunk, would gluing them shut move that model out of the "Box Stock" class.
Scale-Master Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Gluing the opening parts shut should not disqualify it from the out-of-the-box category. But an equally built model of the same kit that has those features working might trump it in the same contest. To be sure it is best to check with the particular show you are concerned about entering it in.
Harry P. Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 "Box Stock" generally means using only the parts in the box... no kitbashing or scratchbuilding or aftermarket parts allowed. So gluing opening panels shut would still be acceptable as "Box Stock." But Mark is right... different contests have different rules, "box stock" might mean different things at different contests.
Fabrux Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Our show doesn't even have a box stock category, so no worries there!
Tom Geiger Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 "box stock" might mean different things at different contests. then there are the show where they look at your model and say, "we know what our rules say, but what we REALLY meant was..."
Eshaver Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 then there are the show where they look at your model and say, "we know what our rules say, but what we REALLY meant was..." RIGHT ON Brutha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Danno Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Best practice is as Mark says: Check with the contest(s) in question for their specific rule(s).
Agent G Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Best practice is as Mark says: Check with the contest(s) in question for their specific rule(s). That's why I always head to Phoenix. The rules are the rules, no hidden meanings or agendas. That and I am always armed...................... G
ZTony8 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Since the original doors aren't substituted for something else you should be fine. I've always been a proponent for Box Stock of being able to use(and modify) for the model whatever came in the box-sprue,instruction sheets, etcetera and be able to use imagination to build whatever comes to mind.I saw a beautifully done Honda Civic years ago at the NNL in Toledo that was built using sprue to make some of the parts. Think of an original issue AMT 1957 Ford Fairlane kit-the one with all the custom parts in it.Technically,a full custom is box stock for that kit.
