Nxr Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Although not finished or technically under glass, i got these 2 promos on ebay which i believe were never kitted so i really wanted to restore these. I payed about 35$ for both and think its a great deal, cars have perfect glass no breaks no cracks, the monterey seems to have came pre foiled by someone so i will leave it like that unpainted and foiled but will redo the front for detail and add interior detail as well as license plates, the 60 galaxie however will need a full group up restoration ( i am thinking turquoise with white top and white interior), what you guys think are these rare models/promos? Did i get a good deal? I saw some promos sell for over 450$. Thanks for looking. http://i.imgur.com/m1est7R.jpg
Ramfins59 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I guess they weren't a bad deal, but I think you might have been able to find the '60 Ford AMT kit cheaper, although it's not a Galaxie.
Nxr Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 but no four doors! i do want all the other early 60s full size fords and mercs now i have quite a few but not all.
Erik Smith Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 They look cool. Good deal? That's relative. Those old promos (pre 62 for most) are made of acetate and warp - and I don't think there is a way to fix it. AMT did a 1961 Monterey convertible, might have done a HT too.
Nxr Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) would they be okay if they are primed with floquil railroad and then painted with a model master enamel? Well the ford i mean since i will just keep the merc as is, not one scratch on it almost. -There is a noticeable warp on the fords left side but it is very minor, to be honest its fine with me for such a car, the mercury is staying foiled by the person before cause he/she did a great job and i guess in this case will be the only time i will keep the plastic as the paint job, i mean a 61 merc! 1930fordpickup Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Around 35 for both cars is a good enough deal . You may find them cheaper but how long is it going to take you. The Mercury would sell for double that at most model car shows, it is in great condition.
Rob Hall Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 It's hard to find the '60 Ford 4dr ht promo w/o warping...mine has a bit of warpage..
John Goschke Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 The '61 Merc HT was available as a kit with opening hood and engine. The AMT '60 Galaxie "Town Victoria" (Ford-speak for four-door hardtop) was never available in kit form. Sadly, all the '60 promos will display some warpage, which is actually a symptom of the more basic problem, shrinkage. $35 for both models seems like a decent deal, particularly if the Merc was molded in non-warping cycolac ABS plastic versus shrink and warp prone acetate.
Nxr Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Here are some more pictures with all the other full size fords i own, i also finally got some BMF to practice this weekend its the ultra bright chrome, i used to paint and mask trimmings on all builds before, about 26+. Slight Glue bomb on the mercs right side... i may have to remove the foil and repaint and re do it all if i cant get that to go away. Edited October 26, 2013 by Nxr
