crazyrichard Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 well after i got new tyres fitted on my car i went home and started work on the dio to add more depth i made some grass in front started a sign woth frame to put on the grass . also makes it more like a separate lot .. base layer of grey on the concrete edge added some supports and to spice up the sign made a rounded top with a texaco logo
gasser59 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Oh man I love the grass part in the front. Great idea and your sign looks good but it seems too big and overpowering. IMHO I think its twice the size it needs to be. Also, I'm not sure you need to mention that its regular gas since unleaded wasn't around back then. For the time period you're depicting, I'm not sure the gas price isn't too high. I know, it sounds like I'm being very critical but I'd like to see these last few touches to be just right along with everything else in this great depiction of time dio.
crazyrichard Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 i know what you mean about the size , but the idea was that its readable from a distance .. like a customer magnet ?? and about the regulair .. i could easely put something over that part ... maybe this update makes the sign look better > tell me what you think now its more blended in made the frame red with a bit of brown wash .. also did the big pole and tyresign frame red to get more red / color in the dio
crazyrichard Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 when posting this update i hated the round top on the pics so i removed that ...
gasser59 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 It looks much improved now that its painted but I still believe its still too large. That's just me. I wouldn't want you to change it just because of my opinion though. Let's see what other think.
crazyrichard Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 the sign itself the size i'm def happy with that , i def. want a nice visible sign .. the actual sign on it , that might change , this is ine of the internet .. i will design one myself in fotoshop , easy t glue over this one nd now i have this sign i can print out the new one in the direct same size .. thats the fun part its so easy to change that stuff
crazyrichard Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 changed the sign to coca cola > gas today 22ct drink a coke while you waight ... not done yet ... a few quick shots i took outside this morning
Tukkerdax Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Much better that sign Richard ! I really like your work....
crazyrichard Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 Much better that sign Richard ! I really like your work.... thnx eric and dito you know i love your work .. but the sign .. hmmm i hated it myself and made a version 3 with a newly designed sign i altered it in photoshop and made sure its readable ... added a poster board below with a drag race and a soap box derby add poster .. much better imo
gasser59 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) Now that is nice. What's left to do to this? Are you panning on adding non-functioning lights to the Texaco signs? I especially like that last outdoor picture. That is a step back in time and in color too. Edited December 22, 2013 by gasser59
crazyrichard Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 thnx guysand yes i sill need to work on the spotlights and general lighting .. i did want to put in real lighting at first but tbh i just was to lazy to make a plan and ... really do it ..but i will have to make non functioning lighting yes .. decided thats one of the last jobs because when everything is set i can think about the style and placement
southpier Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 22 cents! that's the real give away - must be about 1964. nice job, too.
crazyrichard Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 thnx guys !! and you yes i realised that later .. i made that sign twice it was all glued on and i realised i made a spelling mistake on the word wait .. then after completing i googled gasprices 1932 .. dumb because i should have done that before but most signs i saw on images had like 22 or 27 cnts on it .. but then i found out 1930's was more like 10cnts a gallon ..
lower99 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Congratulations to the netherlands! Really, awesome work, Rich!
crazyrichard Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 haha thnx arno and jonas (neighbour hihi ) !!
crazyrichard Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 found some christmass light lanterns , where half broke .... so i took a old sprue and made pillars used the bases and altered the bottom of the lantern a bit , just a quick thing not to much effort of thinking about it one is painted in base brown and the other just after assembly i desided to only use one , next to the mailbox , sunken in the grass , painted the glas yellow and gave it a first round wih pigment powder and rust wash overall vieuw , all the pics are not that great with the evening lighting
crazyrichard Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 thnx !!! whell getting neir to completion , will only need to make like a tyrerack and maybe a mobile oil cart , could do a pothole in the concrete ... yesterday i finished the lantern pole , drybrushed it with olive (matt) and gave it mild rust pigment layer also added 2 poles with a chain .. that will get some washes and i think i will hang a sign on the chain with no parking
crazyrichard Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 made the no parking sign and made it haning on the chain
GTMust Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Apart from your obvious building talents, your imagination for the extra details is outstanding! I would never have thought of adding that chain and mail box..... superb! Tony
crazyrichard Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) haha thnx , well credits for the mailbox go to dinky a fellow dutch builder (also a member here on the forum) , the chain was just one of those spontanious idea's btw the chain and poles are not done they need a wash Edited December 25, 2013 by crazyrichard
