crazyrichard Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) nice story tom and btw you are as old as you feel yourself or like you act haha i added a slightly bend licenceplate , a tiny chrome doorhandle and a chrome fan , just to get some not rusted parts in there Edited December 17, 2013 by crazyrichard
gasser59 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I like the variety of finishes on the parts washing bin but the license plate looks too new. Got something a little older yet still has some color?
crazyrichard Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 i can easely aply a wash on the license plate , or chip it .. but i also like the contrast like something just trew on the pile ..in daylight it looks different
gasser59 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Richard - I was referring to the style or year of issue, if you will, of the plate. I looks like a current issue of Oregon plate and not something a bit older. I figured whatever you put in there would eventually get some of your fantastic weathering. Ask that girl in there to get you an older style plate. Put her to work. Edited December 17, 2013 by gasser59
crazyrichard Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 aaah i see . whell thats me not knowing those plates , lol it was a decal from a carkit .. i figured it looked right lolso yes whell then i will google for some 1930's plates and glue that over this one !thnx thats a good call haha
crazyrichard Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 whell quick enough ?? went online after the previous post and looked for a old plate (texas plate) rescaled it in photoshop and printed it , glued it over and gave it some matte varnish .. actually i dont need to so a thing to it it just looks perfect.. i might make some more and put some on the fence thnx again brad !! very helpfull i would not have known that
gasser59 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Now that looks better. Do you have a period of time in mind for this dio? Say, maybe the 1950's? Edited December 17, 2013 by gasser59
crazyrichard Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) no not really the style for me was the 1930's .. not meaning it is the 1930's in this dio but build in .. did a lot of research and back in the 30's they had a lot of different styles and this shoudl fit in pretty well. crazyrichard Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 Wow, you seriously amaze me with every update. The "Sunday" outside pictures are awesome, than you can see the real colors. thnx arno !! and yes the colors dont come across best on the evening shots .. when i take shots in the garden it really pops .. and you know it whenever your in the neighbourhood you are always welcome to take a peak haha
crazyrichard Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 people needed to know i was open for buisness .. so i made a sign now this portable sign works well with the garage sign .. that made me think i need to redo the big texaco sign and at least do the gasoline lettering in the same red as the rest ! the sign did its job , suddenly we where busy wide vieuw of the whole .... i got a nother great idea a sign on the bottom side of the advertising pole with gassprices !!
Dinky Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 you know it whenever your in the neighbourhood you are always welcome to take a peak haha Yes I will, what about saturday morning? I need to be in Graaf Jan straat, that's next (parallel) to yours Idea, what about a cool mailbox in the grass
Tom Geiger Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Inspiration... a real American mailbox. Mine!
crazyrichard Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) oooh whow .. thats a awsome idea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thnx did not think of that ... gonna do a mailbox 4 sure ..and saturday morning .. depends how late i have a apointment in the morning to fit new front tyres at jenr cardesign in ridderkerk ....hmmmmmand at tom hahahaah you need snowboots to get the mail .. hmm glad we have a mailslot in the front door , mail just falls inside on the doormat haha Edited December 19, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 made a start with styrene , now you guys can help to look if the scale is a bit right .. to be hounest i just did it on feel without the dio on the table ... i'm not familiair with those mailboxes i just though of how big a letter would be in sclae and kind of ... on one pic i put it on a small pole next to the pump as comparison and one in the grass nbext to the wreck .. now that one is a bit tricky because when it sits on a pole it looks a bit different there . less small i think
gasser59 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 he size looks just about right although I'd shortened it a bit. I like the dent, nice touch. Don't forget to put bird poop on it.
Ramfins59 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 And if you are leaving it by the wreck at the street you should make it a little higher. It should be about waist high on either a wooden or metal post...... and also, paint the flag red.
Dave Van Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Been watching this build.....fantastic work!!!!! I built a gas station dio about 1985 or so.......It was fun to watch as you built many of the same things I did.....different years and styles of stuff....but lots similar! Again great work!!! Fun stuff!!!!
Dinky Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 and saturday morning .. depends how late i have a apointment in the morning to fit new front tyres at jenr cardesign in ridderkerk . New tires, that will cost you lot of money. You name the time, and if saturday morning is difficult we choose another day.
crazyrichard Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 thnx all ! brad i wil try to add some bird poo , wil keep this one not rusted ...to balance the .. but i just had to make a dent in it i could not resist haha and richard yes i know that was the idea .. i just layed it there because thats the place it wil sit .. i will put it on a square wooden post and with a red flag yes ... and dave > thnx and whow that dio looks awsome !! and the way you took the pictures > cool i will be trying that also when its done and that big coke sign really does a lot for realism , taking pics that way with the building in the backdrop creates depth ! looks superb and dinky hmm let me think i really need to sleep in a bit because its een a hard week and this morning i started work at 4:30 ... i will be at the tyre place around 11:00 - 11:30 ... its funny because most weekends i have nothing to do , just this one ... so .. i dont know how long it takes but lets say worst case i'm at home around 13:00 but thats not morning .. hey just let me know when you think its suitable .. or you are neir here ?
gasser59 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) In the one photo referenced above, you mentioned about the mailbox will sit there in the grass just up on a square post. Remember to keep the mailbox a bit closer to the driving portion of the roadway because the mailman will deliver it from the street and not walking across the grass. Don't forget to put a low digit number on it too. Keep up the awesome work. Edited December 20, 2013 by gasser59
crazyrichard Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 went on with the mailbox , put it on a real wooden pole with red-isch stain with a wash of dark brown oil paint , washed the box itself and painted the flag red , hand written nr 20 on the box some scale idea's for fun
Dinky Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 No worries Richard, we will pick another day im kinda busy this weekend also.
