Sixx Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I hope you guys can point me in the right direction in finding parts for a build I'm gonna be starting. First off, it's the Revell 57 Ford, it's going to be a gasser. 1. Is the 312ci motor pretty much the same block as a 302? Any visual differences? 2. Where can I get some good fenderwell headers? Or, any tutorials on making them? 3. What's a good source for an econoline I-beam straight front axle? 4. Any source or what to use for a Borg-Warner Super T-10 trans? 4 speed. 5. Who does custom ordered decals? They need to be gold with black outlines. I can't print gold or anything right now...printer took a dump! I've pretty much got the rest, getting some cool wheels from my buddy Joe at JDSRacing!! Thanks Joe!!! And thank you to anyone that can boot me towards the right parts!!!
Sixx Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Man, I sure didn't look where I was posting before I did!! Sorry, and thanks for moving it !!
John Goschke Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Well I can answer #1 at least... The 312 is a completely different engine than the 302. The 312 was descended from Ford's first generation overhead valve V-8 that debuted in 1954. The 302 is descended from a small V-8 that was first produced in 1962 in the new mid-size Fairlane. There are significant external differences.
Sixx Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks John!! What would be a good, well detailed 302? Any suggestions of a kit?
slusher Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 This guy does custom decals....http://www.firebirddesigns.net/
2000-cvpi Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Any of the Revell 32 Ford kits have good 302 motors. I would start there.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks John!! What would be a good, well detailed 302? Any suggestions of a kit? If you're just looking for a good longblock for a Ford 302 (block, heads, timing cover, etc.) and you're going to modify it to a race motor, any of the Revell '32 Ford kits have nicely done engines. One of the best Borg Warner T-10s I've seen comes in the AMT engine parts packs...this one It's also in the earlier Blueprinter engine pack that has the custom grilles.
Sixx Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Oh man, thanks guys!!!!!!!! I'll have to be bled for that AMT competition pack!!
KevinMoparFord Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Just a guess, but are you working on the 57 Ford on the cover of Hot Rod? I would like to get those decals too if he makes them for you, let me know.
philo426 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I made fenderwell headers out of twisted one conductor wire.I had to install them from the outside after the engine was mounted up.
High octane Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 How 'bout the Ford motors in AMT's Fairlane GT kits (390) or Revell's Thunderbolt kit (427)???

Another source might be the Revell '56 Ford pickup kit, which includes both stock and dropped front beam axles. 4) This can probably be found in the Revell '55-'57 Chevy kits (the older versions...not sure if the newer Black Widow includes one or not).
Sixx Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Wow, you guys are AWESOME!!!! Thanks for all the help!!!!
