Tom Geiger Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) Donn got me thinking... this week I decided to work on restoring an old stripped built up 69 Chevy Impala SS. I pull a 70 Impala kit off my shelf for parts. Then I discover that these kits have a manual trans attached to the engine (never mind it's an auto trans interior) but somehow the '69 I'm working on has a gluey big block with an auto trans. So I decide to restore this engine. I grab a second 70 Impala kit from my shelf for the engine bits for the second engine. In doing so I discover another Impala kit that's missing a chassis, so I take all three Impala kits and dump them into their own parts tub. Sooooo... how does this affect any average? A. I build a '69 Impala from an old pile of parts that weren't counted as a kit. B. I took THREE 70 Impala kits out of circulation, but didn't build any one of them... And the kits we buy all year long. Do they each count as a kit? Or do we need to fractionally calculate them from 365 days in the year. If I get a kit for Christmas does it count as 6/365ths of a kit in the years average? The plot thickens! Edited November 14, 2013 by Tom Geiger
LoneWolf15 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Aww , let's face it ! Be it average or percentage , we're all a bunch of plastic junkies to varying degrees . Factor in how often we think about the hobby or build and ponder inside our heads about building , average or percentage wise , the numbers go into the stratosphere ! Like I stated in my original post , the percentages for me are always going to be twisted up because I am constantly futzing with something , modelwise . If I sand out four sets of tires in a day , I have completed another phase towards several builds . Be it ever so obvious , the stash is constantly changing and ever growing . Revell is killing me with these new releases , Lmao ! Of coarse , it'll take a hammer and a chisel to get the smile off my face for the viewing ........ That just breaks my little heart !
tubbs Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Now , based on percentages , how many if us talk to ourselves while building ? Hmmmmmm ? Oh yeah ! That would be me ! At times , Kathie will open the shop door and holler , " Hey Sybil , Everone ok in there ? " Yes , the voices do answer her , several of them all at once ! She laughs , tells me that all of the bulbs in my chandelier aren't lit and departs for saner areas ! haha.... my wife wont come near my room. I am usually singing or humming with no music playing, and sometimes...... I make engine sounds and tire squealing burnout noises... vaaaaaaarrrrroooooooommmmm........ c'mon, you all have done it. I also play hot wheels with my son and my sounds are better than his.
Danno Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 My build percentage is 100%. Everything I build is something I built. That's all that matters.

I just get into the zone and build. My wife says she's come into the model room and I never noticed she was there.

My wife says she's come into the model room and I never noticed she was there. That's me also. My basement is where the model building area is located, although I seem to mess around more than actually getting anything completed. My house has become more of a project here of late.
Daddyfink Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 My build % has to be around .25%, maybe! I am trying to finish a 1:1 project before I can really get back to model building. Am I sitll getting kits? Oh yes!
